Is this possible to do by yourself? or should you take it to a paint shop and get them painted? any suggestions on paint and a price range?

I think painting your rims will be a mistake. I don't see the paint holding up on a DD. You may consider gettting them powder coated. I am sure would be expensive, but would hold up FAR better over time.

I didn't read the entire article, but sounds like the guy spent a lot of time finding the correct paint/prep procedure. If you are up for the job Weight, you got your hands full
