From the new Motor Trend: http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/112_0807_dodge_challenger_srt8_vs_ford_shelby_gt500/index.html

The SRT8 Challenger is pretty decent for having an automatic with 3.06 gears.

Interesting thing is that the 2009 Challenger R/T model will offer the TR6060 6 speed manual with a choice of 3.73 gears (with 18 inch wheels) or 3.91 gears (with 20 inch wheels). The 6 speed 5.7 liter is rated at 375 hp. With the manual and 3.73's the 09 R/T should be pretty close to the 2008 SRT8's performance, and most likely be able to run with S197's.

Exactly what I was thinking, not to mention the GT500 has supercharger whine and can see 11's and 10's a lot easier than the SRT-8 could.

GT500:
-Faster
-Better tuner car
-Supercharger whine>big engine exhaust
-better handling
-better mpg
-better warranty

Newer bodystyles always take these things though, it's a shame. Not taking away anything from the challenger srt-8, it's bad ass but it will take some good coin to take C6 Z's which the GT500 could do fairly cheaply.

Not to mention the deep pockets one will need just for the initial purchase of one of the 6400-10,000 initial production models. $37,995? I don't think so.

Maybe it rides better, but everything else they said was better was pure opinion.
And actually, the biggest blast they gave the Shelby was once again, a solid rear.

Germans and Italians ARE NOT BUYING this car...lol...we (90% of mustang owners) don't mind a solid rear.

This is why I don't even pick up magazines like MT anymore. It's all predetermined.

Ever see a comparo of Honda vs. Car X. Car X can be faster, cheaper, handle better and brake better and Honda will win because of a nicer interior. When comparing performance cars, interior is way down the list of concerns. What do you expect though, these guys are all in their 50s. Motortrend is a gay rag of a magazine.

Why does everyone bash a solid rear. That bugs the crap out of me. Solid rears with a good 3 link(the new S197s) can handle quite well and provide a lot of forward bite. The S197's in Grand Am racing have proven that, being faster around a road course than most of their competition(a lot of Porsches). I've heard it refered to as cave man suspension, or horse cairrage suspension. So what, the wheel is a cave man invention but we still use that. But it goes right to what you guys are saying, they're like "Oh, well this car has a solid rear and we don't like the interior, so car X that performs worse is a better performance car." It's just like all the Hemi nutswingers, they see a certain thing and automatically think good or ill. Hemi=good and solid rear=bad seem to be very common, despite the fact that modern non hemi chambers perform equally as well(without even getting back to the issue that Chrysler's Hemi isn't a real hemi chamber) or solid rear setups can cut corners and provide good traction. People look too much at names/numbers/things and not enough at results

I actually prefer the SRT8, looks better and is much cheaper. (Ford dealerships have the GT500's going for 60k or more, or at least every one I have seen). The Chally is just looks so badass, and the fact it is NA makes it even better in my opinion.

lol, the first person to pick the challeger just happens to own a charger.

any who, good luck getting a challenger without a 10k+ mark up in the next year.

Bagh, just because Dodge has already sold almost all of the '08's doesnt mean that dealerships would DARE up the price on the remaining '08'/09 models coming out *sarcasm? you decide*

Yeah, probably because I prefer the look of Mopar cars. I don't see what your getting at, of course I prefer the look of the Challenger, look at them. They are both great american muscle cars, but the 60k for a 500hp car with the interior of a 30k car is a little ridiculous to me. I don't understand what your trying to get at, does it really hurt your feelings that bad that I pick the car I like better? Different people have different views.

Better than the 20k markups you see on the GT500's.

So it's a contest to see who can get a smallest dealer markup?

I was'nt trying to make a competition, I'm just stating that if you think you can get a Challenger (this year or next) for anywhere near sticker, you're nuts.

Several people on here have know someone who has picked up a GT500 for sticker.
