Hi I have a 1989 5.0 mustang and I am ready to get some serious power, but I am not the mechanic type person. I have a lil under 5000 to play with. My engine has 147000 miles on it but I want to get a turbo are supercharger. So what I am asking is which one to go with, also should I have the whole engine rebuilt and how much do that usually cost labor and kit. Not looking to strip race. Just want to dust most of anything on the street. Also with my suspension what do I need to do to sustain this power, would like to know parts, prices and labor if possibel. Thanks for any input.

if you arent a very mechanically inclined person, and only have 5000 to play with... an old fox 5.0 is NOT the right car for you... especially if you wanna "dust most of anything on the streets"

i'm not to mechanicly inclined, never torn apart the motor.

this weekend it goes into the shop for about 3K worth of work

king cobra clutch, ford cable, adjustable quaderent, tri-ax short shifter, eaton posi-trac, and ford racing 3:73s

I know it's alot of money, but this is a great shop and waranties everything

I quess I should not have made the car sound like it is in bad shape, I have done things to the car and it is not completely stock, I have changed the gears, the shifter, all exhaust has been done from the headers back,I have a cold air intake on it as well,I mostly have donethe small things already far as the car running in good condition, All small things have been fixed, Iguess i amsaying theengine is stock and Ihave not did anything to the suspension. I havelowered the car and added new shocks and struts but thats all.

I would look into creating a solid base before adding mods to a motor. If the motor is old and stock, itmay nothandle too much extra horsepower. I would look or advertize on craigslist for someone willing to doa rebuildon the side.

Heres a quote I heard on here:

Whats the point in owning a 5.0 unless you work on it yourself?

You could always find a 5.0 block and rebuild it your self over time. I'm considering this myself. May end up paying as much as buying a crate motor, but would learn alot.
