Hey guys, i just rescently purchased a 1991 5.0 lx convertible. i love the thing to death, but i need to beef up the tranny. my last ford automatic (E40D in a 94 pickup) gave me nothing but problems, so im going to beef up this transmission before it becomes toast.
the tranny was just rebuilt by a shop the last owner hired, and they did a cheap rebuild. i need this thing to take some street abuse, so what exactly should i replace first? what is a good torque converter to buy? etc.
my budget wont allow me to purchase a complete performance unit.
so im basicly looking at valve body/torque converter upgrades for now. question is, what stall convertor should i go with? and what valve body available through the aftermarket will help my tranny cope with serious driving?
would a plain ol' valve body redo, + synthetic fluid and cooler handle 270hp consistantly? im not building a full dragster, just a cruiser/weekend machiene.
i just installed a shift kit on my stock aod and it helped greatly
