I am in the market of buying a 289 that is already machined burnt beaded and all that plus boreded .40 just ready to be put back together. My question is that i had that same engine bored .40 over in my car and it would always over heat and then i put a hole in the cylender wall. I did every thing to fix the over heating issue. will this new 289 over heat since it is bored .40 over also? The engine block was only 300

i found out my block was already .30 over and everyone at my work (check sig) said it wasnt worth it. if its a stock engine, you can get away with it. but if its a mild street engine then i say no.

It's hit and miss. Factory core shift is sometimes bad, some engines will go .060 without problems, others have problems at .040. Mine's at .040 and no issues, but that doesn't mean the next one at .040 will be fine either.

I'd say working in a machine shop is the reason that you got the block for 50$ in the first place :-)
I'd love to be able to get a block here. I'd build it up ever so slowly and when finished dump into the car. time is no issue, sourcing a block is impossible here
