Well, I have an o/r prochamber with slp II's and basically ever since I but them on there has been a ticking noise. After reading on this forum I figured it would be the passenger side flange with an incomplete seal. So I finally took it to a shop for them to properly fix my exhaust leak. After $60, the exact same noise in there. I think its coming somewhere near the engine. With the exhaust system sealed and most likely no leaks, what could it be? It is very frustrating and it should terrible when I’m in low rmp's. I think I might get a differentmid pipe. Does anyone know what the noise could be?

You sure they fixed the tick? And does it increase with RPMs?
A manifold/collector leak is most likely the cause of the tick, if it is in fact exhaust related..

I'm almost positive they fixed the click, they better have. It increases as the RPM's increase, the exhaust note drowns it out at about 2k but before that it ticks like a b!tch.

If you took it to an exhaust shop, and they "fixed" everything....and its still "leaking and ticking".. Doesnt that kind of contradict itself. Assuming it is in fact an exhaust leak... And not a knock from the motor. Can you get a video?

No, I can't get a vid and I can't even go back to the shop until the end of the summer. So there is nothing really that I can do right now. When I get the california i'll try and take it to a shop and see when they think, but it really does seem like its coming from the engine. Oh and it only ticks when it is in gear. When i rev it up in netural is doesn't make any ticking noise. Does that help any?

you ahve the same problem i have.... and art02gt had this problem as well.. he fixed his. i havent had a chance too yet.. mine and his are both coming from the drivers side header/midpipe connetion.. he grinded down his midpipe where it meets with the header and the noise stopped... thats basically what he told me.. ill try it one of these days

I have the same issue with the driver side flange where the midpipe and header connect, but I haven't gotten a chance to fix mine yet either. Im hoping to take a whack at it this friday or next tuesday. From what ive heard though it seems as if our cars are notorious for having exhaust leaks. Does anyone recommend putting any sealant on flange, I know not to use anything with silicone in it b/c it will smell like **** from the heat, but the only thing ive seen in searches it to use JB weld or something along those lines, any suggestions?

Are there any alternatives to the drive flange leak that could be possibly causing the problem?

By buddy is putting a flange on his midpipe to head on the driver side...

a flange was put on mine and my tick is still very apparent.

I had issues with the Driver's side, too. My issue was that the factory studs wouldn't let the pipe's flange seat all the way against the header. The studs have a "stopper" on them that only lets you bolt it up so far. I had a shop put new studs in that didn't have the "stopper" and that allowed them to tighten it up enough to prevent the ticking.

i dont think he has an exhaust leak.
he has already said he took it into an exhaust place, and payed them $60 to fix any leaks. they fixed his leaks, and he STILL has the tick.
its funny/ironic that this post was made....i dropped my car off at the ford dealer monday morn b/c of a ticking noise. it sounded/sounds like an exhuast leak. i went to an exhaust place, and was going to pay them to stop any leaks. they put it up on a lift, and checked it out, and confirmed i DID NOT have any leaks. the noise almost sounded like it was coming from the tranny area (although i have no clue what could be ticking in there). it isnt the throw out bearing....b/c i have that noise also, and i know what it sounds like (crickets chirping basicly), but if i rest my foot on the clutch then the throw-out bearing goes silent. this is a TICKING noise, that does increase with rpms, but does not get louder. does not change at all if i press on the clutch, the exhaust drowns out the ticking around 2k rpms. if you are sitting in the car with the door open the ticking sounds like its coming from underneath the car. if you pop the hood and listen for it, you cant really hear it. and if you are next to a wall/going thru a drive thru, you hear it very well.
my car has been at the dealer since monday morn. its now wednesday and i still havent heard a word from the dealer as to whats wrong/causing the tick. if i dont hear something in a bit i may call them myself. the car has 74k miles on it. only had 19k miles on it when i got it. my extended warranty expires at 75k miles. thank god whatever it is, should be covered under warranty. when i find out what it is, i will give you an update. maybe its the same thing on yours...

so here is the update. the ford dealer called me about 20-30min after i posted my above post.
they told me exactly what i thought they were going to tell me.
when i took the car in monday i told them about the ticking, and also told them that on my last oil change (about a week ago) the guy that changed the oil, said my rear main seal was leaking.
so they call and tell me my car is done, and i can come get it.
the bill was $1,246.00 (only cost me $100), they said that the ream main wasnt leaking and that the leak was coming from the oil pan gasket. so they removed and replaced that.
and for the ticking.....the fuggers said that its common with 4.6's when they start getting higher milage and the tick is normal. the bill reads the fallowing: "the customer states a ticking noise can be heard from under the vehicle at idle." "Tech 124 checked engine/cooling system. tech could not verify a problem."
so of course she is still ticking. the exhaust place made sure there is no exhaust leaks. the shop i had put on my slp pulleyes, said that there isnt anything wrong with it, and just sounds like it could be a noisy lash adjuster, but its nothing to worry about. basicly the same thing the ford dealer just told me. i asked them (the ford dealer), "so this isnt the start of a problem?" and of course they said its nothing to worry about. the ticking isnt super loud, and prolly isnt even noticable to a non mustang owner. but still annoying, and it didnt used to do this.
and $1k to replace an oil pan gasket?!?!? holy sheeeeeeit!!

I have the same noise, from the tranny area, not recognizable from under the hood. I've had it since I bought the car w/ 60K mi. on it.

i have this noise too and nobody but me and my mechanic can hear it. my dad drove it 3 1/2 hours from my house in pa to ocean city today and heard NO ticking noise at all. it bothered me because i had my old motor start clicking really bad but it was carbon knock. so now i know it is nothing to worry about. but im gonna have my mechanic check it out anyways because i worry a lot about my car. Thanks guys.

My car only has 29 k on it. I just don't get it. It doesn't get any louder when i hit the gas and it sounds like its under the hood somwehere. It is pretty noticable till about 2k. Ford seems to have no idea what it is and it sounds like we might have the same problem. I just want it fixed and it sounds like a new midpipe won't do the trick. I'll try to bring it into a shop that knows what they are talking about next week. See what they say.

im still putting my money on the drivers side header to midpipe connection... there is no gasket on that side. air is probably sputtering through

I would too but I put a gasket on that side when I installed the h-pipe. You'd think with new bolts in there + the gasket it would be sealed completly...
