Sounds like you need a damn good radar detector than under those circumstances. I wouldn't play around. I'd spend the money on the Valentine1. I've got a cheap Cobra but the cops around here are pretty good.

http://www.radardetector.net/     Lot's of good info there.

You can't go wrong with a V1.  I personnaly like the BEL products (Beltronics and Escort are one and the same now, btw) and I'm running the BEL STI-Driver. Matter of fact, I just returned from a trip and had at least 2 definite saves.

A number of top-of-the-line BEL's have excellent sensitivity.  There's a link on the above website to some very good test info. You can get a decent BEL (Vector series) for around $200-$300.  I wouldn't mess with most of the cheaper units.

Agreed. The Escort/Passport is a pretty nice unit. I like the design of the case a lot better than the V1. I'll probably end up getting that one when the time comes.

I've had Escorts of various models over the past 16 years. Only speeding ticket is on my motorcycle, which
did not have a detector on it.

Currently I'm running a Solo S2. The sensitivity is a bit reduced, but it works surprisingly well and there are no
wires (hard or otherwise), which I like. I have a Smartcord from my previous Passport that works in a pinch.

This subject is going to get you about as many varied opinions as you'd get if you asked which oil people use, and that's been asked here a million times too.  Every time I see this subject in a new thread, inevitably I see that most of the replies say the Valentine is the best.  Maybe it is or maybe it isn't, however, I own the Bel RX65 and can tell you that I personally think it's the best....because it works for me.  It's saved my butt numerous times and notified me from long distances in several others, and I do mean numerous times (so it's already paid for itself).  Is it "the" best detector on the market though, as many here will lead you to believe?  Well who the heck knows really, but I'm extremely happy with my Bel and THAT is what matters most.   In fact, I'm going to buy another one for my wife's car....not a V1.

My point is NOT to tell you that you shouldn't trust the opinions of the people here.  This is a great group of Stang owners for the most part, and they're usually right on target in most cases.  No, my point is basically that all of the high-end detectors are very, very, very good, and depending on which site you look at to gather your opinions, you're always going to get different opinions...but you shouldn't let anyone here (including me) sway your purchase decision in the end.  Our opinions may help validate your own thoughts and concerns, but in the end, YOUR choice matters most.  When I bought my RX65 it was rated the best of the three top ones (V1, RX65 and the Escort) on THAT site I bought from, yet as you can see, most of the users on THIS site prefer the V1.  Does that mean unequivocally that it is THE best detector?  NO!  It's an opinion shared here, but not necessarily everywhere else.  Most people on THIS site also say either Mobil1 or Royal Purple are THE best oils, sooooo, which is FOR SURE the best?  Does anyone HERE really know?  Fact is, you can buy any of the three top detectors and you'll definitely be  very satisfied.  I'm basically just saying that for a subject like this one, I think you're far better off doing your research on NON-forum sites and deciding for yourself so YOU are happy with YOUR choice, not someone else's influence.

Wow, that got away from me....

If you've already received too many tickets, why don't you just drive a little slower.  I'm sure you can still have fun and save several hundred bucks.

Because cops are f-in sneaky.  I never realized just HOW sneaky until I got a detector.  They will actually STALK you when you're driving a sports car such as a mustang.  I can now observe their habits and it's startling.

My weapon of choice is the Escort 9500i and I would have paid $1000 for it because it's saved my butt that many times...

Oh god are you in LE?  There's one in every detector post.  They would hate for you to learn their tactics, which are pretty dirty.  My driving record was CLEAN until I got the mustang.  A week later I was picked out of lineup of 5 cars for doing 45 in a 40. Not the Hondas or the minivans or the camrys, yeah the MUSTANG. (Took defensive driving and had it expunged)  I ran to the local BestBuy and bought the most expensive detector they had.  Almost a year later I'm ticket free again.

Sorry, you lost me with LE.  They must be bored as hell to pick you out of a lineup for going 5 mph over the speed limit.  I've been driving for 30 years and never got a ticket for speeding.  That is, I've never been caught.  Good luck!

LE=Law Enforcement.  Keep on driving your red mustang w/o some sort of protection and you'll eventually get that "first ticket in 30 years".   Unless you never keep your eyes off the speedo!

This is true, but when you live in a major metro area (if you want to call austin, tx that) it's kinda hard.  Cops come running anytime they hear exhaust.  I've actually been next to a guy at a stoplight, rev'd my engine enough to do a quick tire spin w/o the car moving and the cop across the way at the stoplight thought it was someone going through the light making the noise.  He floored it through the light chasing someone he thought made the noise.  Funny, but just goes to show...
