I am looking to replace my factory radio on my 06 v6. I think its the Mach 460. It's definately not the Shaker 500 or 1000.

Anyways, I will probably be putting in some new speakers down the road and I am wondering what I should aim for as a RMS per channel on a new head unit. It seems like most are around 19-22 RMS. Is that acceptable? I am looking to have a significant bump to the sound system and may end up installing some new speakers down the road too.

No headunit actually makes 22 watts per channel RMS. Look and the fuse, multiply it by 12.5 and that tells you how much a 100% effecient, perfect amplifier would make if that was the HU's only responsibility.

If you really want a good system, you will invest in an external amplifier to power your mids and highs... Make sure the HU you buy had front and rear pre-amp outputs.
