Acceptable RMS for After Market Head Unit
I am looking to replace my factory radio on my 06 v6. I think its the Mach 460. It's definately not the Shaker 500 or 1000.
Anyways, I will probably be putting in some new speakers down the road and I am wondering what I should aim for as a RMS per channel on a new head unit. It seems like most are around 19-22 RMS. Is that acceptable? I am looking to have a significant bump to the sound system and may end up installing some new speakers down the road too. |
RE: Acceptable RMS for After Market Head Unit
No headunit actually makes 22 watts per channel RMS. Look and the fuse, multiply it by 12.5 and that tells you how much a 100% effecient, perfect amplifier would make if that was the HU's only responsibility.
If you really want a good system, you will invest in an external amplifier to power your mids and highs... Make sure the HU you buy had front and rear pre-amp outputs. |
