Clay them and than keep them up with Stoners Invisible Class. I prefer the aerosol spray.

OK.  Will distilled water pass in a pinch though?  I have to pick up my car today from the dealer and I need to wipe the windshield off before I drive off to make sure it's OK.  I don't have anything except distilled water or windex right now.

Windex will work fine, but it might streak. Water isn't really going to do a whole lot, but you can go for it if you want. I'm not sure what you mean about picking it up. Are you looking for cracks or what?

Do not use Windex on tinted windows. Don't you have an Autozone by you or something?

Pretty sure his windshield isn't tinted.

Oh, and if your Windex is ammonia free, then it won't matter. But I agree, just run to the store and get some Invisible Glass. You'll be back next week picking up a few bottles for the rest of your house. It's all I use now when cleaning glass.

I'm only cleaning the windshield, that's it.  And yes I'm checking for scratches before I drive off with the car.  It's a new windshield.

I have autozones and all that I'd just rather not have to go get anything special after work and just go straight there.  But if it's impossible to clean a windshield without this invisible glass stuff I guess I'm screwed.

Personally, I'd just use the distilled water. I'm sure they will have it clean before you pick it up.

Yeah, you probably won't get a chance to clean it.

The first windshield had handprints and fingerprints on it.  We didn't see the scratches until the next day when I wiped it down with distilled water and my MF towel.

While you may just end up using water for this, +1 on the Invisible Glass. That stuff is amazing (for a glass cleaner).

Well bring water then. Windex may streak and make you think you see scratches. Though, water wont clean dirt out of scratches as well as a cleaner would, so you may still miss scratches. Almost any detailer is going to tell you to go get some Invisible Glass.

I agree about the invisible glass.  Pretty good stuff, but I use newspaper to wipe it off.  I know it sounds crazy, but newspaper is the best stuff I have found for use on glass.  It is abrasive enough to get that strange film you sometimes get on windshields.  Simply loosly wad it up and wipe away.  Give it a try.

I use some industrial glass cleaner my father brings home from work made by kimball midwest. It sprays a white foam and works amazing. No streaks or anything. Good stuff.

+1 on Stoner's.

I've never thought about claying a windshield...sounds kinda scary.
