View Full Version : Best way to clean a windshield Riptide 05-13-2008, 02:16 PM Microfiber towels and distilled water? AJ03SVT 05-13-2008, 02:20 PM Microfiber and Stoner's Invisible Glass ThumperMX113 05-13-2008, 03:19 PM Clay them and than keep them up with Stoners Invisible Class. I prefer the aerosol spray. Riptide 05-13-2008, 03:23 PM OK. Will distilled water pass in a pinch though? I have to pick up my car today from the dealer and I need to wipe the windshield off before I drive off to make sure it's OK. I don't have anything except distilled water or windex right now. AJ03SVT 05-13-2008, 03:26 PM Windex will work fine, but it might streak. Water isn't really going to do a whole lot, but you can go for it if you want. I'm not sure what you mean about picking it up. Are you looking for cracks or what? ThumperMX113 05-13-2008, 03:28 PM Do not use Windex on tinted windows. Don't you have an Autozone by you or something? AJ03SVT 05-13-2008, 03:29 PM ORIGINAL: ThumperMX113 Do not use Windex on tinted windows. Don't you have an Autozone by you or something? Pretty sure his windshield isn't tinted. [8D] Oh, and if your Windex is ammonia free, then it won't matter. But I agree, just run to the store and get some Invisible Glass. You'll be back next week picking up a few bottles for the rest of your house. It's all I use now when cleaning glass. ThumperMX113 05-13-2008, 03:30 PM Mine is ...[8D] Riptide 05-13-2008, 03:32 PM I'm only cleaning the windshield, that's it. And yes I'm checking for scratches before I drive off with the car. It's a new windshield. I have autozones and all that I'd just rather not have to go get anything special after work and just go straight there. But if it's impossible to clean a windshield without this invisible glass stuff I guess I'm screwed. [&:] ThumperMX113 05-13-2008, 03:34 PM Personally, I'd just use the distilled water. I'm sure they will have it clean before you pick it up. AJ03SVT 05-13-2008, 03:41 PM Yeah, you probably won't get a chance to clean it.[8D] Riptide 05-13-2008, 03:45 PM The first windshield had handprints and fingerprints on it. We didn't see the scratches until the next day when I wiped it down with distilled water and my MF towel. mustangdebt 05-13-2008, 03:49 PM While you may just end up using water for this, +1 on the Invisible Glass. That stuff is amazing (for a glass cleaner). AJ03SVT 05-13-2008, 03:50 PM Well bring water then. Windex may streak and make you think you see scratches. Though, water wont clean dirt out of scratches as well as a cleaner would, so you may still miss scratches. Almost any detailer is going to tell you to go get some Invisible Glass. 07 Shelby GT 05-18-2008, 04:42 AM I agree about the invisible glass. Pretty good stuff, but I use newspaper to wipe it off. I know it sounds crazy, but newspaper is the best stuff I have found for use on glass. It is abrasive enough to get that strange film you sometimes get on windshields. Simply loosly wad it up and wipe away. Give it a try. UmX 05-24-2008, 08:49 PM i use quick wax.. found it to work thebest.. my06shaker 05-25-2008, 06:56 AM +1 invisible glass and a clean terry cloth bpark8824 05-26-2008, 02:51 PM I use some industrial glass cleaner my father brings home from work made by kimball midwest. It sprays a white foam and works amazing. No streaks or anything. Good stuff. NotStok 05-28-2008, 12:54 AM +1 on Stoner's. I've never thought about claying a windshield...sounds kinda scary. |
