i just heard about a guy near me running a 289 head on his 302, cam, intake, other minor bolt ons and dynoing N/A at 290hp.

i guess it works really well doing this because of the small combustion chamber upping the compression. can you still run nitrous on high compression? anyone experiance or know anyone running this set up or have any input on it?? im just curious of the efficiency of it.

That's the old-school setup I've had for years. Nitrous and compression get along very well, not that I use it though.

pretty reliable? anything special you have to do to it? what kind of compression are you running?

Haven't calculated CR, but after 16 yrs. of use/abuse, it still pumps 200-205 psi in a cylinder compression test. One little detail you have to check/look out for, is the match-up of the head-to-EFI intake coolant ports........ 289 ports are smaller, in my case I have a carburetor, so no problem there. Another detail is the possible problem installing the corner HR lifters with the heads installed...... Best 289 heads?..... HiPo style with small chamber, guide plates, adjustable roller studs.

do you think you'd make more power on gt40's or 289's?

In my case..... I wouldn't spend $$ in GT40/GT40p heads over the 289 heads I have........ Next logical step for me are some Canfiled 195's or TFS..... and obviously, the X-303 would go.

It will depend on the budget and goals...... options?:

- GT40's
- Ported E7's from Thumper of Orange Park (http://www.thumperoforangepark.com/)
- Canfield, TFS, RHS, (http://www.camshaftinnovations.com/CylinderHeads.htm) AFR, etc
