What’s the closest thing to a wreck you have had without actually having a collision? I have had a few really close calls on a road course, or out playing in the snow/ice, or someone running a stop sign.. but on Saturday afternoon I had the closest call I think I have ever had.
I was helping the g/f move back up here from south of Houston, and I was driving the old clunker car she bought recently after she sold her car.. Different story.. but anyways, it’s a 93 Camry and it’s a hunk of junk. We were just south of Dallas on I-45 where there are 4 lanes + a right turn lane.. going about 85mph.. and a black Mercedes decides to conquer my lane by force. The bitch caused me to dive right just a bit in the car to avoid her, and when I did, the front sway bar on the Camry let go. I spun completely around, slid backwards down the interstate, managed to spin it back around forward again, and get it back into a lane, and finally come to a stop pointed in the right direction in a single lane.. No idea how it didn’t flip the car when it was sideways at that speed, and also no idea how I didn’t get hit. I know there were some cars around me at the time.. I did manage to keep it mostly in one lane though.
The black car that caused the thing pulled over quite a ways ahead, and all lanes of traffic came to a stop.. I was able to drive the car off, and just kept on going. No one had a collision so I wasn’t worried about it. I couldn’t believe the car did that. It was crazy feeling a really hard thud, then the car just suddenly take off in a spin.
Actual damage to the car: front air dam is fubared and hanging down, front sway bar is broken, feels like the shocks are blown out in the front (has about 6" of travel when you sit above either front wheel), transmission is slipping now, brakes are toast, the camber of one of the wheels is way off and it looks like its leaning a bit, and I blew off a hubcap during the slide.. 2 of the other ones have big gaps where they are way off the wheels now.. haha. Needless to say the steering is just horrible. I think she'll be trading it in on a newer gas saver car in the near future.. haha.

V-6 is for real drivers. Go buy a Jetta if you want gas mileage and a chicks car. Buy a V-8 Mustang if you have no driving ability and need the extra horsepower to compensate and feel like you''''''''re fast.

The near miss I described here last week. Old man on a major 4 lane highway decides at last second to brake, change lanes and cross highway with no signals...all right in front of me and my wife. Thank God for 4 wheel discs.
My car almost got T-boned with my gf in the passenger seat.
I was driving on a small road when a car of some sort proceeded to turn left out of an alley right at my car.
I don't remember if I had time to react and hit the brakes or not, but I do know that I jerked HARD to the left.
It was like time slowed down for a second while I watched and waited for my car to get clipped and send me around. I was actually more worried about my gf at the time than the car getting hit.
SOMEHOW the car missed me, I really have no idea.
Scary!

Hopefully running by the weekend. Gonna run her good too!
Years back in my Spirit R/T on a rainy morning on the way to work. I saw an RX7 in the opposite lane start spinning through the median on a head on to me. I downshifted and hammered it. Luckily he spun around my car slinging mud all down the side and did a head on into a van in back of me. I saw in the news that it killed the guy in the RX7 and seriously injured several in the van. I was soooo lucky that the spin was timed perfectly to miss me by inches. Whew......I had the shakes for a while from adrenaline after that one.

it was about 10 at night, after it rained, so the roads were wet and still pretty crowded. I was on the thruway, which has 2 lane and 3 lane areas. I was in the middle lane, a semi to the right, and a land rover the my left. the 3rd lane(left) merges into mine at this point, so the SUV goes behind me. well, the lane to my left hadnt dissapeared yet, and for about a 1/4 mile theres still the pavement before it turns into guardrail. the land rover decides to pass me- in the non-existant lane. the drivers right next to me when they realize they are doing 75 and theres a guardrail coming fast. they swearver over- right into me. i go right, while slamming on the brakes. ABS goes nuts, and the car goes sideways some from the wet roads. in the end, i was behind both cars with the land rover having no idea what happened.
good gawd man, you spun completly around on the interstate
im thinking of Fast and Furious 2 where that one dude turns around and drives backwards on the highway while giving the finger, only he's a little more controlled
ok im driving down a 2 lane road at 5:30pm. right as everyone gets off work so its busy. Some teenager in a jeep slams on his breaks in front of me, i am like "Oh ****!" so i swurve to the right to avoid hitting him. luckily for me there was a road to pull off into but i still went into the dirt. but the guy behind pulls right also.
heres another. almost got Tboned on drivers side
pulling out of a business area. i wanna go right. well i wait a while and traffic gets backed up to where im pulling out. someone decides to be nice and let me out. well the guy behind that nice guy wasnt paying attention, he swurves right to avoid hitting the guy in front of him and almost T-bones me.

Just found this thread and I thought I'd throw something in. I was driving 880 in Ca. its 4 lanes approaching a junction. the van in front of me slams on his brakes and swerves across my lane to make the junction. I'm in the '66 coupe, 4 whell drums. I had just dought the car and only God knows how long it had been since the brakes were adjusted correctly. The car instantly spins 180 to a complete stop across three lanes. I throw it into reverse, stomp the gas, throw it in drive and am on my way. scary tho... a few months later I bought a SSBC disc brake conversion Fun times tho. Kip

buying an '08 GT to commute with is like killing flies with a very expensive shotgun.
I was driving a company truck and was in the lane to get off the freeway and merge onto another freeway. Needless to say this freeway is notorius for random stopping. Well it was rainy and I had just gotten over from the HOV lane and was going the speed limit when the car infront of me hits his breaks, so do I. I realize that he is slamming on the brakes and I don't have enough time to stop, especially since it is raining, so I do the old "oh ****" and swerve to the left lane and after passing the five cars that are randomly stopped for no reason I merge back into the right lane with no one infront of me. The guy in the passanger seat was in a wreck with the same van in the same spot a year before, and on the same day he crashed, my dad almost crashed my truck in the same spot. I really do hate that spot, and retarded drivers.
One night in my old short bed Chevy 4x4 I was on the Turner headed to OKC. It was patchy ice and I was doing about 50-60. I caught a patch wrong and started spinning.....ended up in the Median about three feet from sailing into Arcadia Lake. Asswipe that had been following me for 75 miles never even stopped to see if I was OK. OOPS
I can't remember the last time I drove anywhere in the Middle East without having at least one close call.
Arabs. Cant. Merge. I'm serious. They won't pull out until youre 20 feet away and then they decide it's time to go. I tapped a Nissan Tiida today (TINY car. much smaller than anything sold in the states, except maybe for the smart car) while I was in the Durango. Wouldn't have been that close of a call if the ABS wasn't out in the Dodge, but I ended up skidding right up to his bumper and giving him a little love tap.
Well, it was a Thurs nite... (wierd i know) and my buddy had never ridden in a n20 car... So we ride around for a bit, let him get a feel for it (yes i was driving)... We head out to Destin, and the dumba$$es around here water the grass medians everynight-- totally useless.. Anyways, i slowed down through where the water was draining onto the area of the street... I get past it about 30-40 ft, and i forgot my N20 was still in engaged.... At that point i kinda hit it a lill bit, and b4 i knew it, my mustang revved up to about 5500rpms, jerked to the right, i tapped the brakes, tried straightening here out (not forcefully), and she did, then slammed into a 360 to the left... then we came to a stop. Facing oncoming traffic, i barely open my door, and about 3"s away was the cement curb... Yeah almost hit that, and if i would have hit it with enuff speed, may have rolled my car... Luckily it was late at night and nobody was around and nobody was injured... But in the end my buddy never wants to ride in a n20 fox again... especially with me.

Almost got run down by a runaway semi in a mountain pass once. Flames coming off his brakes, saw him coming.....the camper in front was doddering, and barely got out of the way in time for me to slip between 2 other semis in the slow lane with millimeters to spare. He still had to go on the shoulder to avoid hitting the camper, which swerved at the last minute. Nearly rolled over while he was going about 90-100mph. That would have been NASTY, 3 semis, 2 truck pulling a camper, and me in a Toyota pickup(4 cyl). It would have been like my own personal sheetmetal coffin.
I also had a drunk pull in front of me driving an ambulance once, going about 45mph this dude cleared with a couple inches to spare maybe, with me on the brakes like a mofo. Needless to say a 6 ton ambulance hardly stops on a dime. Not that it would have mattered, Ford F-350 chassis vs 84 Toyota Camry chassis....yeah, smush.

I guess I had a close one a few minutes ago, but I pretty much expected it so it wasn't a big deal.
I came up to an intersection and the light had just turned green, it's got 3 lanes, far left is left turn, far right is right turn, and middle is left and right (obviously, there is no road straight across). Well I was going right and the middle lane was empty, so I took that one. Luckily, I don't trust anyone on a double turn lane because no one except for me has a clue how to drive a car. So as I was going around, I made sure to wait a couple of inches behind a minivan's back bumper while they were on the inside turn lane. Sure enough, the drifted on over in front of me where I stayed about 6 inches from their rear bumper and waved at them.
I can't even begin to count the number of times that has happened to me. I had it happen on a double left in the Cobra once where the ****in mexican's yard equipment trailer passed in front of my drivers side fender by a mere inches.
I just don't understand how some people can be such ****ty drivers.
The first one was a few months ago. My girlfriend and I were leaving Taco Bell, trying to pull out onto a divided highway. I go to pull out into the far right lane of the lanes heading north, when some asshat that was in the turning lane from the lanes heading south pulled a u turn and cut infront of me. I barely noticed it in time, and hit the brakes about 3 inches from his bumper. I swear to God, gangsta types have no idea how to drive...either that or they just think their too damn badass to get into a wreck.
The second one was right after I had gotten my license . I was headed to school and had just left my house. My windows were still a little icy and foggy because it had frozen the night before. So I'm trying to drive out of the little 5x5 hole that my defroster had just made. I come to a curve in the road where the pavement is raised about 4 inches from the shoulder. I meet a car that seems like it's coming over into my lane, so I jerk over and accidentally go off into the shoulder. I then over correct like a dumbass and she started spinning sideways. So I overcorrect, yet again, and start sliding in the other direction. Luckily, after about 3 or 4 over corrections I finally got the bitch under control. Had there been anyone coming my salad would've gotten tossed.
too many to remeber, i kno the one that scared me the worst was one day going to school on i45 i had the speedo pegged in the tbird(so it was 120-130)and i was in the slow lane(first mistake) and i was coming up on a freeway entrance and a guy merging on to the freeway pulls out in front of me, i was completely blocked to the left so i had to whip around to the right onto the shoulder for a good couple hundred feet till i passed all the traffic and just barried the peddle again and tryed not to hyper ventilate. another time i was pulling onto hwy3 close to 518, i was at a stop sign, it was raining btw, and i decided to floor it. i went across 2 lanes completely side ways, whipped it back one way then the other, then completely spun out across the painted median, into oncoming traffic(pointed the wrong way) so i slammed it into reverse whipped out a PERFECT j-turn and went the opposite way i originaly intended. all wile starring at the traffic that was about to plow me over. and those r just the ones that scared me enough to remember

I have one, I was going down I-494 on my way to dinner with my g/f of the time. This is a 6 line divided inter-state and I was in the far right lane. It was about 6:00pm so you're staring right into the sun and I came up over the hill doing about 60-65mph and traffic just stops. I throw the ol GTP in neutral and slam on the brakes. I stop in time (which is surprising, for how crappy the brakes are on GTPs) so I look in my review and I see the guy in the crappy mini van behind me eye balls get big like he isn't going to be stopping any time soon. At this point, I'm thinking I'm just going to get smoked. I try to pull forward between the 2 lanes, which must have helped because he just cleared my rear bump as he was in the middle of his 360 into the guard rail.
He bounced off the rail and into the middle lane which had cleared by this point. He quickly limped the van off to the shoulder and just took off running.

Last fall. It had rained and there were wet leaves on the ground ad well as pavement being wet. Was going into a hairpin right curve in the road. I hit the cruve with just a little to much speed and the trucks rear wheels broke loose I srtated coming around. Thought for sure I qas going to do a 360 so I was starting to crank the wheel in hopes of doing a full spin and not flipping it. Got around to 180* and it felt controable so I whiped it back the other way and she straightend out and I keep on driving. Scary as hell.
rainy road n a hard downshift from 3rd to 2nd = sideways for a minute..kinda scary lol somehow i managed to straighten back out but i was busy ****ting my pants so i really couldnt tell you how
