View Full Version : Caliper paint
What's up everyone?? I'm getting ready to paint the calipers on my '08 torch rec vert and I need some help. I what to use the g2 torch red paint but it cost about $60 compared to the duplicolor red which is much cheaper. Is there a big difference between the color and quality of these two paints? Thanks in advance.
RAYCERX420 05-13-2008, 03:28 AM sorri dont mean to thread jack but isnt it bad to paint the calipers bc the high heat paint holds the heat in the metal or calipers, so does that mean it takes longer for the brakes to cool down? jw bc i want to paint mine too n thats wat a someone told me...[sm=smiley13.gif]
project85 05-13-2008, 06:10 AM duplicolor caliper paint kit works great:D
07 Grabber Girl 05-13-2008, 08:16 AM Anyone know if duplicolor caliper paint has a Grabber orange color or do I have to stick with the G2?
I don't think that duplicolor has the grabber orange. Again, it's a g2 limited edition color that you'll have to pay more for...
07 Grabber Girl 05-13-2008, 08:57 AM Looks like I'll have to pay the $70 bucks then..... ouch
TPony 05-13-2008, 09:08 AM Duplicolor just have the basic colors....black, white, red, etc. I did not use G2, but I painted my calipers almost two years ago and the brakes and paint are holding up as if new. Just ensure you clean the brake calipers very well and apply at least two coats of paint. Take your time and dont drive your stang for at least 24 hrs.

jdphillips73 05-13-2008, 10:29 AM i put the duplicolor red on my torch red, it looks real good imo...13 dollar mod..
tmsmith 05-13-2008, 10:45 AM Used G2. Was super easy.
After a LONG drive after work, I parked it to wash the car. From me guessing, after that long drive of go and stop, it heated up the brakes and when I hit the water with it, it chipped a little piece off.
Posted about it in one of the threads, and Bill (guy from Wheelskin.com) PM'd and said that G2 has a life time warranty. Next thing I know, I have a replacement can of paint and I can fix my chip for free. :D
Here is a place for 50$ and then you can use mustangforum05 for 5% off. I think its worth it to do it right the first time. ;) If you want a limited edition, you can PM Bill and I'm sure he could look it up for you.
Hoped this helped.

Do the DupliColor and save your money. Its excellent paint and easy to apply.
Here's a vid showing how to do it.

vtmustangs 05-13-2008, 10:56 AM I don't have either but have read in other threads about people using the duplicolor and it chipping
Daniel13 05-17-2008, 05:25 PM my friend had G2 on his car for about 3-4 months and its already chipping.
jdphillips73 05-17-2008, 09:46 PM i applied the duplicolor 2 weeks a go and it looks great...i may chip...i hope not.... but i followed the prep instructions exactly
Fyrewalker 05-17-2008, 10:35 PM +1 for Duplicolor chipping. I painted mine, followed every direction to the letter as to cleaning and application and in less than 1000 miles one caliper is chipping badly. The other 3 are ok, not great, but ok. I will re-use what I have left but next time I may upgrade to a better, more durable paint, It is kind of a pain to pull the wheels each time.
Superman6TNine 05-19-2008, 11:04 AM do they have a white paint or a black paint? id want white but i kno that itll be black by the end of the week haha
kevinmalec 05-19-2008, 02:37 PM I purchased the BLACK Duplicolor caliper paint from Autozone. I painted the calipers about 4 months ago and the paint seems like it is holding up well. :)

I have white - used the G2 and it came out great. As far as getting dirty they really aren't bad. I've made a couple of long trips already, and done a lot of passes at the track and they stay pretty clean looking. Ialso drive my car almostevery day, and have a 100 mile round trip commute. The G2 washes up well also. I considered black, but figured with the black car andblack bullitts the black calipers would end up just black blobs and not an accent - besides my car has a white and black thing going with the stripes.
Duplicolor doesn't make a white caliper paint kit.

kevinmalec 05-19-2008, 10:13 PM NO sanding required. The caliper kit comes with a can of brake cleaner, which is all you need to clean off the calipers before painting. ;-)
The time consuming part is masking the caliper w/ the tape...
Good luck!
