Start with the Vin number. that will tell you what it should be. then you can get help to identify what it really is.

Chances are its been rebuilt at least once and quite possibly is not the original block.

christ :-) what are you doing with them?

as towards 275HP
1. as outlined above there was a 271HP model 289, which was rare and highly saught after.
I guess if it would be one of them it would have been advertised as 271 (not 275), so it's probably none of them
Check on the VIN if you can find a K as engine designator. If you have one, consider yourself lucky ;-)
That does not mean the original engine is still in there

2. The car you have could have been an original 6 cylinder, or 8 cylider and then upgraded. You will only be able to tell with checking on the VIN (to see what the car started out as) and then checking on the engine that is already in there.
most stock V8s are at 200HP flywheel, but a nice set of headers, exhaust, intake, carb and cam would bring you to such a 275HP flywheel margin. If the car has aftermarket gigh flow aluminium heads you can push easy over 300HP flywheel. Hope that answers your question.

To find the HP without a dyno you'll probably have toi rely on your bum-meter ;-)

It had an early 302 swap in it when I got it, so it was already on it's second engine. It started to get tired so I had a roller 302 built for it, that the builder built poorly. It floated before it even got to peak hp and a piston was crammed in a bore too tightly. So I decided to rebuild it myself, that's the one I'm on, and it ain't about to float or have anything gall up. It did recently lose a thrust bearing(a product of modern crappy additive oils and a heavier than stock clutch) so it's getting a new crank, which I want to try and put in today.
