Default Muscle car

I always wondered what was the thing that always gets out of the hood of a muscle car? Like the Dodge charger in fast and the furious and the end of the movie. And sometimes you can see a belt. I attached a pic of the dodge charger. What I can see is that thoses holes are throttles bodies? correct me if i'm wrong. Could it be that because they don't have enough place in the engine bay for a supercharger for example, they put it so it gets out of the hood? A supercharger can be belt driven can't it? I hope you can help me and sorry for all thoses questions.
Thanks

yes, there are belt driven superchargers likle the one in that charger that are called roots style blowers, and the ones like vortech kits and stuff are centrifigual(sp) superchargers. the thing mounted on top of that supercharger is the throttle body. you are pretty much on the right path with that you are thinking. and the reason that they stick it out of the hood is because some people like the looks, and i doubt they make a cowl hood that tall.

Yeah, roots and screw type blowers generally sit on the top of an engine. The roots can get quite large(like Weiand's 14-71 on the big drag cars) and often stick out of the hood. Some of them will fit under a cowl, some won't. The carb or throttle body sits on the top of them usually, some of the EFI blowers have the TB somewhere off to the side.

If the car was fuel injected then yes those holes are throttle body intakes and they will have thottle butterfly valves right at the front opening. But if the car has carburetors then some guys willstill use an air filter housing that "looks" like the fuel injected version, but they really don't do anything.

The Roots style is also a positive displacement blower. They have rotors that move a fixed amount of air solely on the size of the displacement VS rpm.
