I just had a really dumb question, what would happen if you would to put a fuel filter on backward? Would it idle weired and not run right, or would it just idle and run fine?

I'm having idle problems, I have cleaned the IAC,TPS,MAF,Throttle body. I have checked the timing 3 or 4 times with a timing light, there are no vacuum leaks-checked the with a smoke machine, and it still wont idle right and seams that it is lacking some power. I even had to adjust the idle screw on the throttle body just so i could drive it, and it still wants to die some times when i come to a stop.

The car is a 94 I assume? I know the 94-95s had idle issues once warmed up, sometimes they wouldn't even start till cooled down. Sound familiar at all?

No, it wont idle when it is cold, it seams to run better when it is warmed up, but still not like it should.

I have already done all of that on the web page, but thanks tho, I just can figure it out so I just might take it a a guy I know that is a mechanic. He has done alot of work for me in the past, but I just wish that I could fix it so I don't have to Weight for him to do it.
Any other advice for me that could be the problem?

The only other problem I have ran into is the MAF not being plugged in all the way...It looked like it was but those things are dependent on voltage signals and can really mess things up. I guess just do a very good once over of all connectors and vacuum lines just to be sure. You don't want to be wasting that guys time either, so hopfully you'll find it if its easy....

Have you tried pulling codes?  It might tell you a sensor or cicuit is bad.

So if a fuel filter is on back wards will it cause a car to not idle right , and make it seem that it has no power? The car starts fine and I can drive it but it wants to die when I stop and don't want to idle right

Can anyone tell me if a fuel filter on backwards will cause the fuel to not flow right and/or cause a car not to idle or even run like should?

I can tell you that every fuel filter I've ever seen has an arrow on it to indicate which way it should be put on. I've never put one on backward, so I don't know. Get under the car and look for the arrow.

To answer your original question, Yes a 5.0 will run with the fuel filter installed backwards just fine. But the filter will not filter worth a darn., meaning you coulad be getting all sorts of junk from the tank up into the lines and so on. If theres any doubt you better check it .

You know on my mark viii it is impossible to put the filter on wrong because of the bracketry and the filter has 2 different size hoses at each end.

The arrow should point inline with the direction of fuel flow from the tank to the engine.
