what year is it tryin to go in to?...regardless the input shafts are different: for a sn95 its gotta be longer and the tip of the 4cyl is smaller than v8s...if its a fox the tip is still smaller..i think u can just change out the pilot bearing..not 100% on that..but its best to have a v8 t5 if you can..little stronger

not hard but the bell housing will need swapping as well but the 4cyl will not last I put one in a friends car and it blew up a month later

As long as they are both from Fox body's and you are puttin it in a fox body all you have to do is swap out the pilot bearing. Pull the clutch, get a bearing puller, pull the old bearing, and put the new one in, not a bad job at all.

Not sure which one, but mine had a 4cyl t5 in it and I hated it(besides 3rd gear synchro being bad). First gear was so short it was pretty much useless, once you got over 2mph.

you know all this hate on the 4 cyl t5!! Mine has held up great over the last 2 years and I do beat on it regularly. As long as you dont DROP CLUTCH at 5000 rpm you will be fine for daily driving. Shorter gears=quicker Most explode because people dont bother putting in a pilot bearing since they have to do some research to get one to work.

I agree, when I was trying to find out what exactly was in mine, I had the parts store pull a v8 and 4cyl pilot bearing. Def. won't fit because the 4cyl is smaller on the out side diameter.

im using a 4 cyl t5, with factory gears and it works great, drives like an old close ratio trans which i like. accelerates wayyyy better than an 295 first gear t5. id have to say it acts like the car has 373 gears. and as far as being weaker my buddy has one and hes been poundin the hell outta his fora year now and still works good except bearings are gettin noisy. if you have 355s or 373s then the trans gearing will be too much. an 83 ford ranger with a diesel pilot bearing is what you need to make it work. and i highly recommend synthetic fluid in the trans. these things are a dime a dozen why not use em.

so ur saying a pilot bearing ordered for a 83 diesel ranger is the one? can the 5.0 t5 input shaft just be swapped on to the the 4 banger one? i just took apart my old t5 and built my new one, i dont think it would be hard as long as they interchange. my new t5 is throwing off my speedo 5mph now reads faster than im going now
