1) Will a 275/40/17 M/T drag radial fit on the stock 17x8 rims?
2) I'm not a fan of bench racing but I need to get an idea. My parents think they can beat me on the track and I told them they are dead wrong. My dad has a Lexus LS430 and my mom has a Lexus SC430. We want to go up to Moroso, a 1/4 mile track, but may have to settle for the local 1/8 mile since Moroso is closing for renovations. My dad is so confident he bet me some money and I want to be sure I can beat him before I start planning what mods I'm going to buy with his money [8D]. If anyone knows about what these run, I would appreciate it. We are going to try and go this Friday, but we'll have to see.

Ahh good ol' family outing to the drag strip in two Lexus' and a Stang:D
The LS460 from what I've heard is a high 13 sec car. The SC430 I have no clue. I think the gears could win this one for you.
my boss had a sc430. It was pretty quick. im guessing same as the ls460 high 13's. im thinking both cars have the potential to dip into the 13's. id say u got it. how good of drivers are they?

I've driven both cars and they are quick, but it seems only once they get moving. I'll kill them off the line if I can hook, and I don't think there will be enough track for them to catch up. I'm trying to get some drag radials before I go and found a used pair locally that I may pick up, which would help my cause. As for their driving ability, not so great. However, both cars are atuomatic, so the only advantage I'll have there is on the tree. I'm sure I'll beat them in the 1/8 mile, but the 1/4 I don't know. When I ran the time in my sig it was pretty decent weather and I was on drag radials, but I had a lot of wheel hop.

Yes a 275 will fit on an 8" rim.
You will beat them. Bet money on this because you have it in the bag. If you drive anywhere near the same as you did to get the time in your sig you just made some easy cash.

Sweet, that's what I was thinking as well. I won't count the money till it's in my hand, but I'll be able to get a bunch of stuff :D.

I just saw that one of the M/T's I'm looking at has a patch on it (I'm buying used to save some money and because I can pick them up locally). Is a patch on a drag radial a bad idea?

I thought the widest tire you're supposed to put on an 8" rim was a 245? Maybe that's just for F-bodies, though. Something I read on LS1Tech.

It's going down this Friday, weather permitting. I'm going to go look at these drag radials today and tomorrow.

You'll destroy them. That is, if you run anything near your sig time.
Where's the patch/how big?
I had a nail hole plugged on my MT's and they're fine.

Saw the tires today, they are in pretty decent shape. Patch is near the center of the tire, not real big, looked fine.
I'm really looking forward to running them, should be fun. My grandfather said he was going to come watch, haha. I hope the weather isn't too hot and humid. Weather Channel says it's supposed to be a high of 89 and a low of 74, 20% chance of rain with mostly clear skys. Looks promising. Hope I don't wheel hop like crazy again.
