I am a new Mustang owner and have much to learn. My car runs great but once over 60 it really starts to shake and the smooth ride turns into something quite bumpy. It gets so bad my rear view mirror shakes. Would worn shocks cause this or possibly tires out of balance? My guess is suspension but again I am no expert.
tires is another bet if its an older car a tie rod or other suspension piece may be bent.
if your not mechanically inclined i would take it to a local service shop and get them to align it on their machine.

You need it aligned and balanced. You will notice a much better ride once you do that. I had that problem also, and just got it balanced and aligned and it drives great now. Well all the way until 85 or so then the shake comes back.
A tip that eluded me for a long while was my P.O. had the wrong ujoint on the rear of the shaft. It was to small so it just moved in the cups. Talk about bad vibrations @ about 60. Just another thing to consder is check to see if your u-joints are in need of replacing. Also motor and transmission mounts can cause it too.
+1 Could very well be driveshaft/u-joints. Wrong driveshaft length is a possibility if engine swap was performed, bad or wrong u-joints will cause the car to shake, but it is usually easy to tell the diff between that and wheels being out of balance. It is hard to say without driving it though. Either way it isn't good, could be a sign of something very bad...tie rod ends, loose lug nuts could all be dangerous. I would definitely have a mechanic check it out, should be able to tell pretty quickly if the shake is as bad as you described.
I bought a used pickup last year and didn't inspect it really closely. On the first long trip I made with it, the left front rim came off at 70mph when the lugnuts broke off. The only indication I had was a slight vibration at highway speed and it wasn't very bad.
