Default Dumb stock exhaust question

Okay guys,

I will be doin some exhaust upgrades soon. Right now the cars exhaust is all stock. Right down to the 4 cats and all. However the cat back section is in fabulous shape. The tips are great and all. But it doesn't sound good. lol I also have a small exhaust leak on the header. So ima pick up some BBK shortie headers and a BBK Catless H-pipe. Now, i'm dead broke(16, no job, u know. lol) and can't afford a cat back. Nor do I want one seein as the one on there is great. However I wanna put some new mufflers in there. I was gonna go the cheap route and get glasspacks but my friends dad was nice enough to give me a set of Flow 40's he had at the shop. I'm 90% sure they're 2.5 in inlet and outlet. I remember reading that the stock 86 cat back is 2 1/4 in. Is this right? If so can I still put those flows in? and how? Btw my bro is an experienced welder and will be doin all of that. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Tony[/align]

They'll work, they may just need to weld up the difference. I have see plenty of shops do it. You will also have to get some hangers welded up as well.

The good thing is that in the future, if you get some 2 1/2 in. tubing, you can still use the muffs.

And yes, stock is 2 1/4.

to make it look a little cleaner you can buy reducer pipes to weld in front of the muffler and behind the muffler you can even clamp them if you dont have access to a welder I think there like 5 or 6 bucks at the parts store

your going from 2 1/2 to 2 1/4 you would just buy that reducer you will need 4 of them thoo

If you really wanna go cheap just weld a strait piece of pipe were the mufflers where thats whats on my car from the last owner he was to cheap to buy mufflers.
