Hello, I am in the process of buyin a 93 mustang lx 5.0 conv. The check engine light shows. It has 115,000 miles, and not cat. converters. Could it be because it senses that the cat's are off, or something else? If you can reply i'd greatly appreciate it. Matt

First off, having a check engine light is not the end of the world. You can check that with minimal skills and tools. You'll need minimum: a short piece of jumper wire and an analog meter. The basics are two tests KOEO (key on engine off) and KOER (key on engine running). Then using the meter, you basically count the needle sweeps to obtain the codes. Write them down and take them somewhere like Autozone to obtain print outs (for free) of code problem and troubleshooting procedures. Check out this:http://www.corral.net/20anngt/eec.htm
