I think there is some cut off point for hp where you would need some extra fuel, can some one tell me what that is, my goal in hp is around 450-460 at the crank.

View Full Version : 450hp need new fuel pumps? Legion5 05-12-2008, 07:51 PM I think there is some cut off point for hp where you would need some extra fuel, can some one tell me what that is, my goal in hp is around 450-460 at the crank. kn0x` 05-12-2008, 08:55 PM 450 with a v6??? ughh The Potato 05-12-2008, 09:21 PM ORIGINAL: kn0x` 450 with a v6??? ughh He could have a fully built from the block up and turbocharged motor :) 05nightrider 05-12-2008, 09:32 PM ORIGINAL: kn0x` 450 with a v6??? ughh what does that mean? flapjack had over 500 hp at the crank (440rwhp) with stage 3 heads and cams and an ATI procharger. thats not an unrealistic power goal at all. its just not a lot of ppl want to push that far bc of reliability. youll prolly need another fuel pump and better injectors plus new suspension, aluminum d/s, new rear end, etc etc matto1975 05-12-2008, 09:35 PM Its funny that you asked that since my car's stock fuel pump just bit the big one and I am going with the dual gt500 fuel pump upgrade. It is in the shop as I type this because Friday she went completely lean and sputtered on me. Luckily I was about two miles from the only shop I will bring my car to. X-charger = 320hp + 35 for the intercooler. + 20 from the headers with F/I, high flow cats and good axle backs... + 35 from the intake heads which our cars respond to well. + 10 for the cams. That's 420hp as an estimate and I'll be running meth at the track. It's a little under what I wanted which was 465 hp/tq total but I still want to drive the car to 70,000 miles or more without a single problem. So would it be ok to put a Kennen Bell Boost-a-Pump in here or would I need to go with dual GT500 pumps? From what I understand 450+ hp requires a new fuel pump according to 05nightrider... bigdaddy0987 05-13-2008, 06:17 AM the experts say that the stock fuel pump is only rated up to 400 hp. so you will definitely need a better one www.carsponsors.com/IBVIP kn0x` 05-13-2008, 06:54 AM I just don't see the logic in this, rather than starting at 300, you start at 210. I mean, no offense at all that you want to build up the v6 but wouldn't it be easier to get where you want to be starting at 300? elroyjetson_1978 05-13-2008, 09:34 AM for the v6 if you are going over 300 crank you will need bigger fuel injectors and as far as fuel pumps near 400+ crank Rygen, Fazm, and Buckman all hit it with a turbo kit from powerhouse411 so it is possible but I'd guess you probably are going to need a gt40or gt500 fuel kit upgrade to hit it consistently and safely. kn0x` you'd be surprised the crank numbers people are safely getting on these 4.0L engines and keeping them as Daily Drivers. They only get broken when people get greedy chasing better et's at the dragstrip. 05nightrider 05-13-2008, 04:12 PM i couldnt tell you about the kenne bell system but i know the dual gt500s will work just fine.... also to kn0x', legions xcharger system with all the upgrades will be about the same price as buying a gt off the lot. only you have a weight advantage and an extra 120 ponies.. not to mention the pride in saying.. 'yea.. its a six' when you DESTROY someone at the track. [8D][8D] |
