Default Painting Wheels

i'm thinking about painting my wheels black.. i'm a big fan of flat black wheels. or satin black, whatever you want to call it.
i know some of y'all think they look like spares, but i like it.
i really like flat black, i dont mind black plastic on my car.. i'm a pretty simple, function over form kind of guy.
just wondering what y'all might have to say about it. i've read a bit on people paiting their wheels here; i guess i'm looking for fresh opinions pertaining to my situation.
thanks(:

Glad to see some black wheel folks coming out of the closet. I'm currently buying and putting big alloy wheels on my car, and am seriously thinking about painting my new wheels a satin black too. Below is a photo of the wheels I'm putting on the car. At $218 a wheel shipped to my front door, if I do paint them I want to do it right. So, what do you guys recommend I do to paint the wheels as far as prepping them and painting them? What brand of spray paint do you recommend? Thanks, Jack.

paulejr: thats not half bad. how did you paint yours? spraycan, clearcoat..? that isnt really chrome, on the outside, i dont think.. not on my wheels, anyhow. did you paint that outside ring? do you treat it, polish it..? i think its a little too shiny for my taste on my car, but it works for yours.

jwilhelm: if your wheels are brand new, cleaning them shouldnt be a problem. sanding would be your next step. then clean them again, a soap solution of your choice would be fine. something to remove as much of the dust from sanding as possible. blow them dry, paint them, clearcoat them.. thats the basic idea. everyone has something different to say about sandpaper grit, how to clean, what paint to use, clearcoat or not.. its best to do a little research and make your own decision. theres no one right way, really.. i know that isnt the easiest answer. but the best way to learn is doing things yourself, and that means making mistakes.
that sounded a little high and mighty; i'm no expert.
thats why i'm painting my stock wheels first, before i buy something nicer(:

i'd love to see more pictures and hear more opinions(:

I just recently painted my rims. I posted a thread titled ( louvers, tint, & painted rims ) in the appearance section. In the thread I have pics of the results in the thread and details on how I did it, paint brands & other details. Just do a search. Good luck.

those look about like mine...chrome vs machined aluminum - dunno if i really like em all black with just a polished lip...but i wanted them to look old school 66 shelby style, like the look of the rest of my car....it's really a cheap and easy mod that makes your car stand out - with grey paint, they just look like gray hubcaps, but paint the inserts black and they really pop - def worth the maybe 15 bux and a few hours you'll take to do it
