when i bought my car i knew it had an oil leak but the guy i bought it from said he didnt know where.its a slow leak but when the engine heats up it starts to burn the oil off.i took a look and it seems like the smoke comes down low from the back of the engine near the transmission so im thinkin rear main seal what else could it be?

It could be your lower intake as well as several other area's.

Why go through spending the money to go carb when all you have is a oil leak. The part of the engine on a fullie that differs from a carb is the intake. It could be something as simple as the valve covers leaking onto the headers.

I had the same issue, replaced the valve cover gaskets fixed the problem. Then I found a local shop to do an underbody steam clean to clean it all up. Good as new!

i put my hand onto the back of the motor from the driver side of the car to about the middle of the engine, and it had a thick coating of sludge and oil on the head and i believe the intake.this summer i think ill just go through with my original build plan since i want to change the intake and heads anyway and i can just replace head, valve cover and intake gaskets all at once. i got a question though, whats a better sealent?:a good gasket set or silicone?

I use felpro gaskets on valve coversand intake. But instead of using the end piece's for the intake use the RTV there.

no use ford valve cover gaskets way better quality and they last alot longer than any other after market gasket. trust me they are worth the extra money. yeah use silicone instead of the end pieces
