Press fit basically have the wrist pin pressed into the connecting rod, so the only movement is in the pin boss on the piston. Floating pin uses a bushing(or in some cases a roller bearing, but that's uncommon) in the end of the rod, so the wrist pin can move in both the piston pin boss and the rod. It reduces the amount of friction considerably by distributing some of that frictional load to other parts of the pin, rather than just in the piston pin boss. More reliable, lasts longer, less heat and provides an extra out for movement in case the wrist pin ever tries to gall to the piston. Also, since there's less friction/heat in the pin bosses, it reduces the liklihood of the wrist pin galling. Press fit is used in most production vehicles only because it's cheaper, but floating is very common in most performance oriented production cars.

GOT IT, makes a lot of snese, so this is one of the reasons performance engines are lasting longer is the tech going into reducing friction!

You can get piston/rod combos and stroker kits with floating pins. And yes, floating pins will last longer since it contributes to several things which affect longevity.

This is not one of the reasons, floating pins have been around for 50 years.

lol so your saying the pin was created perfectly and has not been improved upon in 50years? your saying i could take a 50year old pin slam it in and it would last as long or outlast a new pin.....i highly doubt that.

Technology gets better and better every year. Tolerances are much better and precise.

Look at engines from 50 years ago. Same basic principle of mixing air and fuel together, but look how far they have gotten.

All this talk about "floating pins" like it is something rare, when it is very common in aftermarket piston/rod combinations.
