Rusted Floor Panel Question

myblackbeauty -> Rusted Floor Panel Question (5/11/2008 3:22:09 PM)

Is there a way to check whether or not the floor panels are rusted out.  There isn't a leak coming from the cowel so I think I'm on good ground.  So, without taking up the carpet, is there a way to check if the floor panels are rusted?  Also, anyone know why trunks are a common place for rust in classic mustangs?

climb under the car and you will see if it is rusty.  Take a screwdriver and poke around the pan. If you go through easily you are rusted through.

It's not just cowl leaks.  My toeboards had rust (still do) which probably started from the outside where rocks would be thrown up and chip the undercoating.  That actually can happen with any car.  I've seen it on a Buick and a Chevy.

pulling back the carpet is a no-brainer. doesnt take long to do [&:]

you could also press down hard on the floor itself and listen for it crackling maybe? or to see if you can go through.
