Ok I have some questions. Ok first off:

1. What is the best oil and brake fluid to use in a 1964 1/2 with a 289 and a 4 barrel carb?
2. Is it better to use steel braded cables for brake lines and all the hoses on the motor?
3. Ok if my mustang have a generator but it also have a 4 barrel carberator did a 4 barrel come stock on a 64 1/2 or is there anyway i could check?

1) Brake fluid can be DOT 3 or DOT 4.  DOT 3 is probably just fine for you, DOT 4 just has a higher temp rating.  Do not use DOT 5.  I'd use 10W40 oil.  Valvoline VR-1 would probably be best for the engine, but it's a little pricier.  If you're not in a cold area, diesel 15W-40 (Chevron Delo 400, Shell Rotella T, etc) will work as just well, at least until they remove the zinc from the diesel oils.

2) Steel braided brake lines are nice, but not necessary.  Same with coolant hoses.  Quality factory replacement parts work just fine.

3) The D code 4V 289 is the only 289 engine for early 65 (ie 64-1/2).  There was also an F code 2V 260 engine.  A quick look at the 5th digit of the VIN will tell you the proper engine for your car.

I'm assuming your engine hasn't been rebuilt recently, so I'd stick with regular oil.  Synthetics work great, but they clean things so well that they can uncover all of the pinholes in gaskets that are currently clogged up, creating a mess under the car.

Syenthetics are nice, but high quality mineral oils are very good as well. I like Valvoline VR1 for a mineral. VR1 is also a known oil that still has ZDDP along with other additives that work with flat tappet camshafts, and also since it's a race geared oil it can take quite a bit of abuse. You could also look at Mobil 1 15-50 or Amsoil or Redline. Stainless braided lines > all others but are more expensive, so it's up to you. If you get good quality stainless braided lines they usually only need to be purchased once, and last forever.
