Starfury -> RE: New Car (5/11/2008 10:42:44 AM)

Really?  No 4V conversion? :D  Nice looking car, though

Hot70Mach1 -> RE: New Car (5/11/2008 10:49:28 AM)

no need to list that.

i have a 650 holley 4v sitting on my shelf in my garage.

but that wont go on till i get a new intake, ignition, and dual exhaust.

the goal is to make it to DD status. and then i can assure you a 289 that will lay down somwhere in the 13.8-14.2 range. thats my goal.

connor90 -> RE: New Car (5/11/2008 11:12:43 AM)

i like the bullitt wheel idea [8D]

Starfury -> RE: New Car (5/11/2008 11:22:53 AM)

That's a really, really big carb for that engine, even with intake/exhaust.  A 500-550 would suit it much better.

im looking to create the same image as your red coupe in your sig.(nice car btw)

my only deviance. its getting painted a dark highland green metallic. with some real deep tint.

i think itll look real sharp.[:D]

iknow

like i said thats down the road more.

i think itll be to radical for the 289.

but maybe with new cams,ported heads, intake, and raising displacemnt to 302 it might work.

but im still uneasy. my friend(who messes with engines more than i do says it might work)

im willing to bet tho its not going to. one of my friends with a 67 chevy camaro 350 said it was a little to radical for his engine and gave it to me to use on the 351 clevleand. i was going to sell it off to buy a new carb for the 289 and he said it might work after we raise displacment and bump up the cams and intake and such.

im not confident but what do you think. if you stoke it to a 302 and redo all the bolt ons including cam will the 650 work. i dont mind waiting for the build up to put the four barrel on.

rmodel65 -> RE: New Car (5/11/2008 11:37:33 AM)

how much

Hot70Mach1 -> RE: New Car (5/11/2008 11:43:02 AM)

^^^^^my goal is to make somwhere between 300 at the crank. this is a rough idea of where i want to head with this. not necessarily in this order.

-stroke to 302
-True dual(2.5 inch all the way through)
-4v carb
-eldebrock intake
-new valvetrain
-head port and polish
-mild comp cam

Yonco -> RE: New Car (5/11/2008 12:22:26 PM)

Just curious, out of the 4 stated up top, Is that the order you will be buying the parts in? or will the all go on at once. Just hate to see you upgrade to a disk kit thats to big to fit under the stocker rims, then gotta wait for more $$. -Jon

Hot70Mach1 -> RE: New Car (5/11/2008 12:35:48 PM)

i got the car for 7800.

yonco to answer that question i will be taking care of the brakes first.
but have no fear. im not talking about  13 inch rotors and 6 piston calipers

just a basic 11 inch rotor and basic calipers.

the car has four wheel drums, and i just want a basic disc brake package. something to make it road worthy on a daily basis.

after the brakes, i have to upgrade the trans from a 3-5 speed. i need to be able to drive it on the high way.

the  wheels may come at any time. my friend has a set on his 240 lexus and hes selling the car so i might be able to finagle those soon.

paint will probably have to wait till the end of summer.

Hot70Mach1 -> RE: New Car (5/11/2008 12:39:32 PM)

BTW yonco i like what you have done with your GT

i was debating about getting a 01 bullitt or 05 blue gt.

Gun Jam -> RE: New Car (5/11/2008 12:52:20 PM)

ohh 7,800 clearly the value is going up on this rides since my last purchase....Right on! noting like buying a car that appreciates in value.

definatly ive been watching them for years. id say about three four years ago you could get this for 5000.

btw it was only 7800 because i won the auction on ebay. the buy it now price was 8500.

i think its a steal[8|][:D](mixed emotions)

Starfury -> RE: New Car (5/11/2008 3:00:30 PM)

Why would you push it to a 302?  If you're going to stroke it, go for the 331 or 347, otherwise just leave it at 289.  You can get 300hp out of a 289, you'll just have to wind it up a bit to get it there.

The 650 could be useful on a stroker motor, but I can't see you needing it on a 289 unless you wind the piss out of it (which isn't a bad idea:)

Oh, and concerning the 3sp, I drive my 67 on the freeway all the time with a 3sp:P  3rd gear is still 1:1, just like a 4sp.  Not that I don't wan't a 5sp, but I can't afford one that's strong enough for me right now, and the toploader 3sp is pretty much bulletproof.

that would be absolutely amazing...oh and thanks [:)]

kubesh -> RE: New Car (5/11/2008 4:04:14 PM)

650 should be okay if his going to raise the displacement and make the engine a little more radical
