This was freaking crazy last night I left work early in plans of going out and to my surprise I see a new Challenger. I have never seen one nor did I think they were even out yet. The outside was exactly like the photo's I have seen and it was black. We get to a light and I didn't wanna race my stock GT because of all the cars around and I knew what the outcome would be. But I did anyway yes I got smoked but not right away he started leaving me right at the 1-2 shift. It was an older guy. This was just really shocking to me that my first time seeing one was racing one! but all in all it seems like a 2-door 6.1 Charger with a little less weight and looks 10X's better!
Cool man!My local Dodge dealer said there wouldn't be any on the ground for another two weeks.I'm dying to run one.Glad you had fun. They do look pretty sweet!

I read a test of a Challenger and a new Bullitt and the Challenger beat out the Bullitt despite being heavier. The tester thought it was because the Challenger had Goodyear Supercar tires. Forget what magazine it was though.
I no longer have the Bullitt,Which I would have been happy to run one in.I have an 08' GT500 now,Pretty sure a win will not be a problem when I can get this turd to hook up.

yeah I saw that test, thats the only article that I can respect because it actually stated that GT500 which is more in the price range of the challenger would have probally won. I don't wanna make this a 16 page thread but I hate when magazines do a test just to make the "new" car look awesome. I know there arn't any R/T challengers out, which would be more of a match for the GT, so any comparision made with the SRT8 challnger should be done with the GT500 because they both represent the most powerful model and there prices are also equal, -any mark-ups!
My Bullitt was 32K,Challenger SRT is like 40+.Not a real fair comparison. When it was run against the GT500 it won even though it posted worse stats in all catergories except braking.1 foot difference.I believe that would fall under the margin of error.Challenger looks good no doubt.Still haven't seen one on the street yet but am hoping too soon!

It seems like edmunds is always trying to put a better car against a mustang that arent in the same price and/or category.
Sounds like that show "Top Gear" on BBC. Once claimed to use a S197 GT for a race with a actually horse but were actually using the V6 S197. Another show quoted the new GT500 as a 4.6 L or soemthing can't remember. Then they raced a Roush built S197 vs a Lotus(forget the model) and the Roush was winning until the last turn and mysteriously skidded a bit and Lotus passed and won. Looked staged. Host Jeremy is such a douche with his attitude towards US cars. Sorry about the off topic

The new GTs/Bullits kick the poo out of the 5.7L magnum chargers(is not a HEMI, badge doesnt mean sh*t) but the 6.1L HEMIs are mean mofos. I would have been shocked if somehow Edmunds came to the conclusion that the Bullit was faster than an SRT-8 anything stockvs.stock

Things weigh just a tad bit lighter than the Charger SRT8s, also a tick slower in the 1/4 mile and top speed and the same for skid pad performance. Though, once they come with the better gears in the rear I am sure this will change, but now we're finally starting to see gears for the Chargers so I dunno... Nice cars.
Going off a little bit, seen some other threads were people have ran against the new Challenger and knew they were going to lose, etc... and posted how badass it was, funny considering they are the same as the Chargers just two less doors, yet the Charger SRT8s are considered slow by the same people Ah well.

That's because everybody knows that similar types of cars with 4-doors are slower than 2-doors.

Can you tell us why they aren't hemi's. I'm curious.

All they were able to get was a 13.7 out of the Bullitt? I've heard numbers more like 13.2.
13.20s,That is correct.I'm sure the average enthusiast should be able to get 13.40s,possibly better with some sticky tires. The Bullitt rolls good for a car with 281 cubic inches!

Because the heads dont have hemispherica combustion chambers, the trademark of the classic Hemi V8sl. Hemispherical - spherical = Hemi. The 5.7L "HEMI" is more of a high-tech 5.9L Magnum than anything else. Daimler/Chrysler just made a smart move when they started throwing 5.7L V8s into everything with four wheels and slapping HEMI badges all over their cars.

oh you didnt know, nothing beats a british car in top gear. NOTHING. and they severely bash american cars. every episode where an american car is ran they have to say something about rednecks and sleeping with your sister.

That's 100% correct. Modern day vehicles use 'Polyspherical' combustion chambers, because they're more efficient and less costly to build. True HEMI's are out there...Porsche, Aston Martin, Ferrari and other super car builders use the HEMI design in some of their vehicles. I guarantee you won't find a HEMI head design in modern Mopars.

They are just pissed off that their British companies are owned by American and German companies. I remember when they tested the GT500 and didn't know the difference between wheel HP and crank HP on their dyno. The guy was like "oh looks like its a GT 500-almost hahaha!"
However, Jermey did do a bit on the 60's Mustangs and claimed it was one of the greatest cars of all time "...It sounds like God shouting..." That makes me wonder, is he really a dick, or are his real opinions clouded by the show writers giving British viewers what they want to hear. Probably more of the former
