Hey everyone.... I have psoted this question on another mustang forum and I seem to not be getting any help.

My question originally was what the loud hissing was coming from my transmission, and found out it was my vacuum modulator. The hose was frayed. Well, thats fixed.

But my transmission is still banging into gear from park to drive and only shifting @ redline. I played with the throttle under the hood and I think I have diagnosed the problem.

There are 3 cables leading to the throttle assembly. 2 on the top on one that follows under, Im guessing the one that is on the bottom has to do with the transmission shifting? When I push the top of the throttle arm toward to the driver side wheel well, I notice that that cable on the bottom is not being pulled by the assembly... like theres too much slack.

So heres the question. How do I take out that slack going from the assembly to the trans if that is the cable going to the trans?

Its that lowest wire with that short spring around it. The slack and nipple stick out like an inch past the throttle connection so when the assembly moves, the only thing that cable does, is just sits there. I need to pull that inch.. back.

Edit:
I found a picture closest to my setup and youll see that cable, the lowest of the 3.

Well, does it shift at redline for EVERY gear? or just first into second? mine shifts really really high from first to second if im flooring it. After that it starts to shift lower and lower. But it will always shift high if im flooring it. I gotta let off a bit if i want it to shift.

But if it shifts high no matter what (no matter how much you goose it, little or a lot) Then you do have a problem.

Do you have a 4speed trans? If you do there is a special procedure to set it if not correct from what I read trans will be gone in miles. Do a search on net.

Yes it does it for every gear. I can just give it regualr no racing type throttle and it will just scream without shifting , then when i put it full it goes up to redline and bang, frikin tires chirp and all.

Yes 4 speed a/t.

Have you checked your modulator. And that cable is the kick DOWN cable. these cars will hold till red line if your foot is in it all the way
