So do the new Crown Vic's come with the same 3v as the S197's? And would the bolt ons for the S197 fit for the Crown Vic?

Still the 2v motor. It makes ~235 hp and is slower than alot of 4 cylinders. They should call it the "lead sled".

I wish the CVPI came with the 3 valve motor. That would be very nice.

Damn. What kind of tranny did they wind up putting in?

I think it was the 4R75W like what they had in the auto mach 1s. not positive though.

I think the only things that use the 3V 4.6 right noware the Mustang and theExplorer (Possibly the F-150).

The Explorer and F-150 both have a 2v 4.6L V8 as well as the Mercury Mountaineer.

Still available in fleet, but not for the consumer market. But they are dinosaurs, and need to be replaced for sure...

what the ****. seriously. that engine is just embarassing. 235 hp for a 4.6L v8, in 2008?

give me a break. thats unacceptable. with chargers at 350 and the G8 at 360, the crown vic is purely for old folks now.

The Explorer and Mountaineer started using the iron block 3v 4.6 in 2006. The new 2009 F150 will be available with a 3v 4.6 also, they currently use a 2v 4.6.

Engines as of 2007 (from Wikipedia)...

220hp / 275lbft (fleet only)
224hp / 272lbft (base civilian package)
239hp / 287lbft (Performance & Handling package only; includes Sport)
250hp / 297lbft (Police Interceptor only)

...In my opinion, the Crown Vic should come with the 3v 4.6 just like the Mustang.

The reason why Ford doesn't use the new 3v is because of

1. No competition in the police interceptor market. The charger has tranny issues and is not as roomy and "utilitarian" as the CVPI.

2. Money. Ford would have to redo it's entire assembly line for motor/tranny installation.

I predict Ford putting a very simliar version of the Mustang 3v in the CVPI with a slightly upgraded/different auto tranny from the S197. That way when the new chassis is created it's built around the motor/tranny and everything can be retooled at the same time.

Over the past 3-4 years Ford has increased the power numbers to 250 HP and experimented with 3.27 (I think) and 3.55 rear ends. It really hasn't made a crap of difference and the cars still do 0-60 in the same time. I think they were trying to compensate for adding wieght as the updated the CVPI.

On a good note. . .The handling is predictable and the vehicle can be controled rather easily in a slide through the corner. The brakes are much improved over the late 90's models and brake fade does not happen near as often as it used to. The transmission stands up to more abuse than anyone on this forum can throw at it on a daily basis. Constantly going 0-100+ speeds daily in various weather and terrain. The auto tranny in the car is very strong and acapable for the power level it makes.

In the last few years, Ford put the variable steering input in for high speed driving. At high speed you don't know it's there, but at low speed, it seems like the powersteering will disappear at times, causing you to muscle your way through something.

I absolutely love CVPIs! I want an all black one. I think it would be a nice grocery getter/sleeper with a kenne bell. (Nothing crazy, just a nice docile tune) I'm not talking about running down vette's. But embarrasing some unsuspecting rice.(which isn't very hard)

Just waiting for my chance to go to one of the auctions.

I was checking out info on the 08's and the LX sport model has 250hp and 275lbs/tq. Not too bad, but still should have atleast 300hp out of a 3v.

Did you see the one in MM&FF. A guy swapped ina5.4 from an 03 Lightning into a 00 Vic. He added acouple bolt ons, some 4.10s, and a manual swap. Makes 450HP and 540TQ.
