I just installed an MRT catted h pipe the other day and I'm satisfied with the sound, but had a question which seems kind of important.

When im in the car, i can smell some remnants of raw gasoline or something that smells very similar. . its usually when i put theair on inside. Since its a catted h pipe, shouldnt i not smell gasoline coming from the exhaust, and even if you can still smell a little unburnt gas coming out of the tail pipes, how is it getting into my car when the windows are closed. I dont think i have an exhaust leak, i already checked and it seems fine.

I had a thought that It could be the lead on the passenger side gasket melting from heat. The stock one when i took it off had no lead on it so i'm assuming that when heated, the lead drips into cracks and crevices to make a seal, and the rest burns off, and over time the smell goes away.

Its a very hard smell to describe but kinda smells like ozone mixed with gasoline fumes. Any ideas on what this could be? a problem? or just normal for a high performance catted midpipe?

Id call Dan Garn at MRT, Im sure he'll help you out or get w/ his techs. My thought is exhaust leak fr either your headers or cat back at the midpipe ifyou can smell it in your car.I also Know when I put my midpipe in it smelled odd until it burnt the coating/paint off. I've never smelled a brand knew mide pipe with cats, you'de think it would smell tolerable. I know mine smells like chalky fuel when in the garage. I have no cats.
Is your o2 sealed all the way. It sounds like your car is running rich. Is you stang tuned ??

Sometimes when people tune them themselves, they don't do it correctly. I had orgianlly a diablo and I screwed around w/ the lean rich tables. WHen I went alittle rich in the upper rpms my car smelled exactly like yours. You have enough to do tuning . Tuning always max your HP safely. When my car a NA, I had a widebane tune to it and got 256 rwhp out of it. Just to make you laugh, when I tuned my car and played around, I went thru 4 o2 sensors. SO, I know mistakes. Again, I know dan Garn at MRT , call him and he may steer you in the right direction. SOunds like a exhaust leak off you midpipe.

yeah it turned out to be a leak. the flare on the pipe that met up with the manifold was too big so it needed to be ground down to make a better seal. its all good now. thanks
