Ok, So I already added the frrp stinger exhausts to my car that I am picking up at the end of the month...My question is the sales guy keeps telling me about the Cold air intake upgrade and retunfor $899 installed. The pluses for me is the fact that it does not effect the warranty when they do it and as long they do it..it would be nice to bring my car in for any issues and not worry about changing out intakes....I know I can get a a C+L setup from VMP for much cheaper...question is..is it worth it....Any advice...thx..

First off when you say "the sales guy" whom are you refering too, the Ford Racing folks or some auto parts store or what? Second, what cold air intake..the Ford Racing on that is actually made by Steeda that is used in the Shelby GT..or the new Ford Racing one that has made its debut with the Mustang Bullitt? If its the Cold-Air kit for the Bullett you can buy it for $699 from Ford Racing and install it yourself in 20 minutes.
As for having them do the install, a cold-air kit is one of thoseparts that is covered under consumer protection laws whereby if it is changed out from the stock one NO MATTER WHO DOES IT itcannotautomatically void your warranty. Any auto-voiding of anything would just beon the warranty of the kit itself and nothing else.
The only "protection" you are getting from them is that it would be their responsibility should anything go wrong. If you did the install of the cold-air kit yourself then by law they would have to show that whatever the problem that the car is having is caused 100% as a result of an improper install you did.
The $200 price theywould becharging for the kit is a bit steep for only a "peace of mind" benefit. IMO any person who could even f-up a simple basic cold-air intake install shouldn't be even owning or driving such a car.
And lastly regarding whether the kit be FRPP or a C&L, thebiggest functional difference in any MAF kit is the size of the MAF inlet. The MAF diameters on the inital FRPP kit is 90mm as was the initial C&L kit. So no difference there. The new FRPP "Bullitt" air kit I thinkhas a95mm MAF. The C&L Racing package air kit has a 95mm MAF so again no difference there. If by chance my MAF diameter info is wrong, and the FRPP MAF diameter of the "Bullitt" kit is still 90mmthen the 95mm C&L Racing kit MAF diameter would only provide a 1 to 2 % air flow increase advantage which from a HP perspective would not translate into a huge gain. In this latter case, the only gain that would be made by the C&L would be that the C&L MAF would have a much higher pegging limit should you ever go to a forced-induction solution.

wow...thx for the response....:eek:I think....I can't tell if you are actually giving advice to my question or a lecture? to help in your peace of mind...when referring to the SALES GUY...I meant that...Sales guy: or proper term salesman. the person who sold me the vehicle. NOw I am not a newb here....nor am I new to the mustang gt world....being a former owner of a 05 mustang gt which I did most of the work myself outside of my supercharger install...I was simply asking GT500 owners who may have BOUGHT the FRRP (made by steeda as you pointed out) cold air intake upgrade and procal tuner IF IT IS WORTH THE MONEY....now forget the $200 diff I can find elsewhere as I clearly pointed out if I did not buy this through the dealer then I would go with Justin at VMPtunings setup. I am fully capable of installing my own CAI. the peace of mind I was refering to was IF anything should go wrong with my car and it needs to go to the dealer as I have done in the past, Depending on the issue I would have to exchange an aftermarket intake (Like the C+L i had in the past and the one now being sold for gt500's) for my stock intake before bringing the car back to the dealer. . BY HAVING A FORD Dealer install it before delivery of vehicle with the FRRP one, they can not claim or bust my chops for me to change the intake and tune if something were to come up. as far as what is PROTECTED by the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act: I am very very familiar with it. Being a person who has again modded heck out of his last mustang I know what my LOCAL dealer will allow and what they will potentially bust chops with...maybe worrying about my warranty is not the issue,,,,maybe it is a convenience factor for me...and I simply just want to know from anyone who has the gt500 and bought this frrp power package upgrade if it is worth it...thats all...thx again though for your response...:eek:again, I think...;)...
to anyone else who may have bought it...were you happy with this or not? I am leaning heavily just getting Justins setup....but figuredI would pose the question....thx

Oooopppps.....sorry but I thought you were referring to a Shelby GT and not a Shelby GT500. I would then have to take back everything I told you, particularly about the MAF meters because I think the FR MAF meter for the GT500 is 113mm in diameter. As for the C&L I really don't know what theirs is. Sorry for the mixup..at least I tried...... [sm=boohoo.gif]

LOL...:D.that is true...thanks again..;).I think i will just go with Justin's setup down the road...no sense in spending the $899 for 40 hp..peace of mind would be good...however..I have not even drove my gt500 yet and I realize i should probably do like i did with my 05GT...drive it stock then change if I wanted to...however..not too sure I will since my car when I sold it had about the same HP crank and rwhp and that was plenty for my DD never drag race car...thx again...

I don't know if this helps, but I was in this same dilemma recently. While I do not have the FRPP power upgrade for the GT500, I have read from several people who have went this route that it made a noticable difference in "seat of the pants" feel, especially when combined with 3.73 gears and a short throw shifter. One other thing you might want to consider is do you want to keep this car a FRPP themed vehicle or do you just want the most bang for the buck?
Personally, I am going to keep most everything a FRPP theme except for the CAI and tune. I am right down the street from JLT and having personally talked with Jay I have decided to go the JLT CAI with SCT tune. Remember, most places probably wouldn't give you grief over just a CAI, however should something happen down the road and you are in doubt you can swap out the CAI with the stock intake in about 20 minutes and the re-tune your vehicle back to the stock tune. So with that peace of mind, I decided to go the JLT route because I think it is the most bang for the buck. I am also adding FRPP 3.73 gears, FRPP KR short throw shifter and FRPP KR shift handle (black). I also plan on adding LCA's to reduce/stop the wheel hop. With these basic upgrades (for around 2K installed) I will have a much more responsive ride. I hope this helps with your quest.

I am thinking of the Evolution Stage 1 or 2.Easy install one the stage 1,2 requires a pulley change.Remember in the event of a catastrophic engine failure,These motors are about 16K,Ouch!,The dealer can actually retrieve the # of reflashes to the PCM and cause you some grief so......................

True, but I doubt a CAI and tune alone will detonate the engine (unless you start messing with engine parameters on the tune), that's why I would stick with the canned tune from the company you purchased the tune from. Also, from my understanding, every time you "re-tune" the car, the computer will show that it has been "cleared", I'm not to sure if it actually can keep track of the amount of times it has been "cleared"? Either way, do it once and stick with the tune. That way down the road if you have to go back to the stock tune, it will only show your computer having been cleared a "couple" of times which is feasible considering you could say you had a check engine light in the past and a dealership you took it too while on a trip had to check codes and clear the computer? At least, that was what was recommended to me by somebody who I think knows their stuff. Maybe someone smarter on this can enlighten me?

Thanks, the color has really grown on me. It wasn't my original choice, but I got such a great deal on it I couldn't be picky. I have really got to where I am glad I got the blue now.
Good luck on everything, it sounds like you are going pretty much the same route as me. I got my windows tinted this weekend (with the ceramic based tint), had nitrogen put in my tires about two weeks ago and just two days ago I installed the sequential tail lights from Silver Pony Racing or whatever their name is. I am still waiting on the gears, short throw shifter and shift handle to arrive. Once those arrive, I will get LCA's, FRPP GTA mufflersand CAI/tune. I'll post a few pics when I get it all installed.
