Bought a new Mustang! (Pics)

moonweasel -> Bought a new Mustang! (Pics) (5/10/2008 4:32:48 PM)

Had a 67 Coupe, 6 cyl, saddle interior, 3sp manual.

Traded up to this.  Bought it for less than 3k (family rate, uncle sold it to me).

65 Coupe, built in San Jose.  Zero rust, all original sheet metal.  I bought it with an Edelbrock Perf. 289 intake, dead Holley carb 4v, headers, 68 4-sp manual, Herst shifter (real nice short throw).  In primer, originally vintage burgundy with black interior, headers too.  Engine rebuilt and barely driven.  Tranny and clutch are perfect too.

Hadnt idled for more than a minute at a time since the late 90s (due to super leaky carb).   Dropped a 500 cfm Edelbrock on it, changed the oil, fuel lines (filter too).

Only took two tries to have her turn over.   Zero smoke.  Idled like a champ for thirty minutes.

Got bored, had to slap some shelby stripes on it.  Nothing says "work in progress and proud of it" like red primer and gloss black shelby stripes. :)

(PS - I didn't bring the stripes over the cowl vent because I didn't want to have to clean the paint out of those slats --   Also I had nothing to do with the monster truck tires on it. :)  )

Looks nice.  What color you going for.  The dash and dash pad seem a lot nicer than the rest of the interior.  Were they replaced?

Could be.   Working on my 67, I got real familiar with all of the interior parts for that design.  I have a bit to learn with the earlier style.   I noticed the pad looks a little TOO nice, probably replaced.  The heater has been gone through with the plenum (?) being replaced with a plastic one.   Im so lucky its rediculous, the car need almost nothing to be road worthy.  Its in storage in Ohio and I live in DC, so I can only work on it a little at a time.

What it needs:  Brakes need to be gone through, new wheels / tires, reattach the grill headlights / reattach valance / reattach taillights.  NOthing too intense.  I started off hating the 245/60s in the back, but they are growing on me. :)  Would probably hvae to get stiffer springs to keep them.  It has 15s in the back and 14s in the front.

Oh, all shocks and springs are in good shape too.

It will be vintage burgundy with black interior eventually.  Im lucky that I REALLY like the factory color combo.  That is a long way off though.

Original paint in door jambs and in the trunk, so it may just need an external paint job.

You could practically eat out of the rear wheel wells.  Not a spec of rust, no cracking in the factory underspray stuff.

those are the wheels my dad had on his 67 hardtop back in the 70s.

a good color for the burgandy is called Chestnut Metallic Clearcoat. it was a color choice in 1970.
really deep and full of color. in the sun it sparkles real nice.
