probably a total of 25-35 over stock, heads are the killer on the 5.0's

With that cam and stock heads you nead to replace the valve springs and retainers.

Yeah I know I need new heads.. I just started a job about a week ago and my birthday is the 15th, so ill be getting a little bit of money to play around with. I was thinking on going with some used explorer heads but wasnt sure how good they were, and was also planning on upgrading the springs and retainers as well. Id love to have a trick flow top end kit on it down the road, but I cant see that happening within a year, and I want power now!
I have the cam sitting in my room, but still need to purchase the heads, intake, and 1.6's. do you guys think I should wait to install the h/c/i all at once, and would I need bigger injectors/fuel pump? And since im in cali, would it pass smog? (I could throw the stock exhaust back on)
