I raced my dad's 69 mach1 just earlier today, he has a modded 5.0 in the car with a 3speed manual with 3.50 rear gears. We raced from about 0-60 and i had about 1 1/2 cars on him, don't know if i would of pulled or he would have because it was a pretty short race. He spun off the line and i held that distance for most of the time, might of pulled a little, after a couple seconds he pulled in my lane behind me and we were done. I'd just like to have a real race with him to see how I'd do rather than such a short one, but it was pretty cool I guess. Now I'm off to my high school prom[:'(] waste of $150-$200 for four hours...bah.

why would he take the Mach to prom??? He just beat it in a race with his car. plus IMO I like the look of the newer mustangs over the older ones anyday(except for the eleanorGT500)

Did your dad put the 302 in it. The 69 Mach came with a 351W as the base motor. If he had the 428 CJ you wouldn't have seen anything but taillights.

yeah, its either a clone, or whoever rebuilt it is retarded
they all came with either a 351w, a 351C, or a 428 cobra jet, all three would have wiped the floor with you
the 351 has ALOT more power potential than the 302
and if im not mistaken, all mach 1's were either 4 speeds or c4 autos
and cobrasnake, i hate to disagree with you (well not really, id love to disagree) because the classic mustangs run circles around the late models image wise

You can poor all the power you want into a classic but the suspensions are crap, you need to fix that and you good. The car is lighter so it tends to spin the wheels off the line. But if you want an unbiased opinion :D, a classic always will pick-up the girls, even if your ugly like me ;)....

haha wow look at some of these uneducated responses.
It's not a clone it's a mach1 with a 302, my dad scrapped the crappy 351 for a built 302 that used to be in my brothers car, he likes the 302 because they are a whole lot snappier so you can STFU fuzzydice, my father knows more than many about those old type of motors, he's had atleast 8 Mach 1's.
And for the tools who said the 351W would beat me, learn something new, I would of either ran with the 351 or beat it(especially a stock one, hell they only have as much HP or less than what I do anyway, and a crappy suspension setup, more weight, so I don't know how it's so godly), my two neighbors have a 71' and 72' mach1 and they aren't any faster, if not slower than my car, those old motors weren't all that great, believe me I've ridden in them, I've seen them, I know the poeple who own them so don't talk sh!t.

well i couldn't get any mach1 pics yet because my dad is out driving it actually but i got some pics just to back up what i said about the 351 vs 302 and just to show that i know what i'm talkin about when it comes to these engines:
3speed tranny he pulled out last night and already has the 4 speed toploader in his car, so now it is a 4 speed.
and for cobrasnake, I know better than that, that is an afterprom thing to do[8D]. actually i just quit that stuff so i only drank

I'm not 100% sure about the tasca thing, it came with that but we don't think it was, my dad just keeps it on there to cover the two holes in the back that would be there if we took it off. and to cobrasnake, when you're looking to buy property and go to college at 18, like you said, sacrifices have to be made[8D] haha

mmm...my dad wants a '69, and I want a '70....
Even though, I'm starting to think the '69s look better than the '70's (mach 1's anyways, not boss 302's.)
As for the 302 vs 351 debate,,,that depends on what youre debating..
the 300hp 351's were a lot strong than the 2 barrels that were at least 20-30 hp down..
and yes, '71-'72 Machs were slow w/o the BIG motor in '71.
Boss 351 though...mmm....Boss 351 > Boss 302 in a straight line [8D]

Boss 351's were '71 Models only.

Sorry to hear your father ruined the value of a perfectly nice '69 Mach 1 (Best looking Mustang ever IMHO). Without the original engine in that car you've probably dumped a good $5000 off of the resale value, shame too. A nicely restored, numbers matching '69 Mach can easily go for $15,000-$25,000, depending on the motor.

It's quite obvious they're not at all interested in resale value.
As for 'ruining' it, that's all in the eye of the beholder. It sounds like it was just a 351 Windsor Mach 1 that was in no way limited production or anything like that.
Not everyone wants a perfectly restored 100% stock showcar that they're afraid to drive because they might get it wrecked and will lose their 'resale value'. If it were a 428 drag pack car with every option and was like, 1 of 1 or 2, then perhaps I would agree with you, but it's not.

+1,and actually smarta$$ Ozz, he's already gotten offers of $15,000 for the car, and it's not even in perfect condition, the windows don't close correctly, the hood springs don't either, and a few other minor things you'd expect for a 40 year old car. His last car was a 1973 mach1 he restored fully and we had someone pull in the driveway that told us he doesn't care what the price is, he would take it. since my dad is a very fair person he only sold it for $10,000, that's all he put into it so that's what he sold it for. I didn't think I would get so many a$$hole comments respecting the intergrity of my own car and my father.

No,Two Three Barrels.Holley hasn't made them in years. The front half was standard arrangement with two venturis and the rear barrel was oval shaped=One huge barrel.I'll try and post a link for you youngsters.I have only seen one of these in recent years.

The four barrel Cleveland dominated Pro Stock for quite a while due to it's superior ports. The exhaust needs to be raised to really get them to run but trust me these motors have a ****load of potential. It's my favorite of the 351 cubic inch series.Just an opinion as I had one that out ran a bunch of Mopars back in the 80's including a HEMI Road Runner.I don't tell stories just state the facts.People missed the boat on this style 351.

My dad's I'm sure has loads of potential if he was willing to throw some money into it.
It's a '72 Q Code which means its the 4venturi motor.
My question is, wtf are venturis?
I know the car came with a 4 barrel carb vs a 2barrel carb on the weaker 351's, but I can't imagine the number of chambers in the carb made that big of a power difference....

he spent his money on what he wanted. theres nothing wrong with that.
if im going to rebuild an old car, and spend the ass ton of cash that would go with it... i wouldnt build it to sell it down the road (thus not caring about resale) and i wouldnt spend all that money to get something someone else wanted in the end.
the beauty of owning our muscle cars is making them our own... what happend to that?

um... you can get massive amounts of HP out of either. if hes not building it for a full out drag monster, either engine built would suit his needs without a problem.
