Earlier this week I received one of the four new wheels I want to install on the Mustang, a Maximum Motorsports Maxxim Wheel, 18X8.5. Today I put it on the car's front and rear hubs to check for fit. Wow, tons of room. Should have know, MM says it's specifically designed to fit the late model Mustangs, and will accommodate big brake systems. I want to install BFG gForce KDW2 tires on the wheels, size 255/45/ZR18. These tires have a diameter of 27 inches in the size mentioned which is .2 inches bigger than the 215/65/16 that comes on the V6s. So I'll only loose a little bit of gearing from the 4.10s I've got in the car. Here's some pics below. Take notice to the most important tool for a fit job - a Budweiser. Essential equipment down here in FL, god it's hot today. I also took a couple of pics of my rear axle coil over shocks and LCAs. In the one photo you can see where I removed the rear axle coil springs, and the straight through tail pipes with no mufflers. Take care all, Jack.

The rims aren't super light, but weigh in at only 24.5 lbs. I wanted to try to put something on the car in the 15 to 20 lb. range, but after messing around with these, I don't know if I'd want to go with anything a whole lot lighter. The gForce tires I want to put on weigh 29 lbs. each, so one way or another, larger wheel/tire combos are going to come out around 50 lbs. or more. I guess the only way to really go lighter is stay with a set of 16X7 aluminum alloys with stock size tires. The gForce KDW2 is now made is 16 inch sizes, but the tire diameter is much shorter than the 26.8 inch stock size and that would raise my effective gear ratio from 4.10 to 4.30 or maybe higher. Really don't want to go that way. Jack

Interesting rim and wheel after market article in May issue of MM&FF you might want to read.
