I'm planning to switch from boomtubes to the Pypes mid mufflers. The boomtubes don't go very well with my o/r prochamber. To those who have mid mufflers, how easy was the install and how long did it take you? What kind of fitment issues were there if any. Where's the cheapest place to get the mid mufflers? Thanks!

just curious but what was wrong with the boomtubes?  The mid muffler is similar to boomtubes i would think, you do get the mid mufflers but otherwise the actually actual back is just like loudmouths?

Like Riptide said, the boomtubes trumpet at WOT with the o/r prochamber. The sound is like "Braaaaaaap". I guess because the exhaust is so free flowing now that the boomtubes "spider webs" (louvered core) - that were designed to clean up the sound and differentiate them from the loudmouths - are useless at WOT and they sound pretty much like loudmouths.  Because the mid mufflers have the mufflers in the middle and not at the rear, they don't have that trumpeting problem like muffler deletes do.

have you thought of just adding resonators? it would be cheaper.  i just know a guy who heard my setup with resonators/off road h and  liked it better than his setup with midmufflers/off road h.  check my sig if you haven't hear my clip

How much did it cost to get the resonators and have it welded in? Do the resonators mount after the H-pipe? What's the length of the resonators that you installed and who makes them?

By the way, since you have an off road pipe, did you notice trumpeting with the boomtubes at WOT too?

Pypes Mid Muffler with an O/R H was the best sounding S197 I've honestly ever heard.- I should know, I had it. It is however, very loud- which is why I dont have it anymore. I am searching for a lower sound than that, and plan on doing LT's with a high flow catted H.

A Prochamber should mellow it a bit when compared to the O/R H I had hopefully, and sound awesome. If you dont mind the car being loud (but unbelievably mean, not raspy) I say go for it.

I wouldnt change the mid muffs for ANYTHING that I've heard on an S197, and Ive heard just about everything.

Post videos if you do it.

I recommend installing on a lift if you have access, or have a shop install it for you, as it is a PIA to install- but well worth it man

the resonators were $85 installed at a local shop.  i'm not sure who made them, i think it's dynomax, but they're about 12" long, and the inside looks EXACTLY like the inside of the boomtubes which i thought was cool.  it's almost like having a midmuffler setup because they install just after the crossover point (either H or prochamber section) and just before the overaxle section.  i did have some trumpeting at WOT before i installed the resonators but now it's pretty much gone.

just did my mid mufflers a few weeks ago.... running an SLP modular x with high flow cats.. install wasnt tooo bad.. a lift would have made 10254 times quicker/easier.. its just getting it all to line up and not rattle on the axle or anything is the only challenge.. but my tips lined up like a charm.. didnt even have to adjust them..

my only thing is that the mid mufflers with the cats (even tho they are high flow) are not loud enough inside the car.. which i dont really understand.. but im taking it in to a guy that fabricated the dumps for my cutouts, and have him try and adjust the rattle on the axle (which only happens at 1050 RPMs by the way).. and im going to have him take the cats out and slip int he straight pipes.. should really make it sound alot louder/better.. i will post more vids with them off..

but the sound the produce is awesome i love it.. deffinately my favorite system for the stangs.. these with a good mid pipe and some hooker long tubes are unreal..

if you go on youtube.com and look at my videos.. you can see a few that i made real quick after i installed them.. my member name is bigdirtyblack ... just type that in the search and they should come up..

and heres some pics and info to get an idea of the tips and clearance with the pipes..

I found this video of someone running the prochamber with mid mufflers. I don't know if his is o/r or catted. Most likely o/r considering how loud it is. Anyway, it sounds damn good! I like the sound of the supercharger too.

harraid5711,

At this time I don't think I'm going to weld resonators into my current setup since I don't want anything permanent. Now if I can find resonators that I can just use clamps with then I'll probably do that instead. Anyone know of any resonators that uses clamps?

I found these. They can be used as resonators. I can cut the exhaust pipe just after the prochamber and probably use band clamps on both ends to install them.

I think I'm going to try these resonators instead. Overall length is 12". I plan to cut the straight section of the over axle pipe and mount the resonators between that and the prochamber. I'll use the stock OEM band/sleeve clamps to secure the prochamber to the resonators and buy two more clamps to secure the resonators to over axle pipes. Anyone know if it's important to stagger the resonators by mounting one further down the exhaust pipe than the other? I heard some people do and some people don't. I guess with the resonators in the middle I would have a mid muffler system.
