cfd2bc -> Follow up to gluing quarter skins (5/10/2008 10:12:37 AM)

Thanks for all of the great information on the guling of quarter panel skins. After reading all of the replys I think it might be best to just throw two new full quarters on the car instead of skins. I am not sure I am good enough with a welder to run all the way across the side of the car without warping it LOL

I did this a couple of years ago on a 65 and made some mistakes. I tried to stay away from the lead joint so I wouldn't have to re-lead it. The trouble with this was that I didn't get it welded in solidly enough and it really cracked after I got the paint on and drove it around. I also just used regular body filler.

I have been reading on using lead. I understand that there are products now that are much better that going back with lead or the lead substitute. What would you all recommend to use. I have heard of Metal to Metal and All Metal. Anyony have any experience with these and would they be strong enough and last?

Jeff

metal based fillers are the next choice after lead
