Hi, just popped over from the Classic forum to see if you guys could help me out.
A co-worker is thinking of supercharging his LX 5.0 & upgrading to a new Performance Automatics AOD.
His AOD is fine, he just plans on making lots of HP so he wants to upgrade.
I want an AOD for my 66 so I may buy his stock one.  I would like maybe 3.73 gears & with my old C4 that would be a lot of RPMs on the highway.

Question - Did the 1991 LX 5.0 have the AOD or AODE?
Question - Would a stock AOD be OK for around 300-350 RWHP?
Question - Is the AOD good, reliable tranny for a street only car that won't ever have slicks?
Question - Would $500 be a fair price?
Thanks for any help & advice!

question 1= 91 had the aod
question 2= stock aod can handle that hp range
question 3= the aod is a reliable tranny if you dont beat on it everytime you drive it..i have an aod in mine with a shift kit and it works very well.
question 4= 500 sounds like a good price if it shift and works fine like u say..

1) aod
2) stock aod cannot handle the stock motor let alone another 100+hp
3) no
4) yes

if you want an aod, you need to get a lentech or spend about $3000 building a stocker up. the gearing is horrible, your car would be slower from the tranny swap. if you make 300 hp now, you'll feel 30 hp slower on the aod compared to your c4

i have owned 2 aod cars , one was brand new and i broke 3 of them in 6 years at $2200/pop on a stock '90 GT that never went faster than 14.20's

some poeple like the aod, i do not from more than few bad experiences.

my opinion... stay away from it unless you have deep pockets
