So...

I got my '06 Mustang on Thursday, and I love it. First off I was wondering if it would be a wise idea to take the stripes off the bottom, scince I really don't like them that much and want to car to have a clean simple look. I was wondering of the paint from 06 might have faded enough to make a difference... and how hard it would be to take it off with out damaging paint, and if a regular body or decal shop could do it. Also if anyone has had them taken off before... ?

My second question I figured I'd include in this post rather than make a new one, is a bit more important. When my car idles I hear a tick... tick... tick noise that sounds like something hitting something as it rotates. It sounds like it's coming from around the transmission, and when I push in the clutch it goes away in a few seconds, but then comes right back when I let it out... I was wondering if anyone might know what it is, maybe the flywheel? or if it's normal, or if it will just break in, the car has 19000 miles on it, 1 previous owner, and hasn't been driven too hard quite yet, so? any ideas would be great, or should I just take it back to the dealership?

I recently took off my side stripes. I just let them sit in the sun for awhile and they peeled right off, no mess.
As for the second question I would just take it to the dealership and let them deal with it.

You don't need to let it sit in the sun or anything at all.

Just slowly peel a corner and then when you have a good grip, grab it and tear it off SLOWLY. If you tear it off too fast, you might rip it down the middle of oddly, then you'll have to pick at it again to get a good grip.

Don't pay someone to do it, its ridiculously EASY and SIMPLE. I did it to my 05 mustang and the paint perfectly matched the rest of the body. After my sister in law saw how good it looked, we took off the side stripes on her 06. And they are both black. So no worries. Takes about 20-30 minutes to peel them off.

After taking them off, just use a little rubbing alcohol where the stripes used to be, then wax it a bit and your good to go.

Pull the stripes back on themselves and
not 90 degrees from the vehicle surface.
This wil help avoid taking any paint and
clearcoat with it. It depends on the vehicle
color as to if the paint would be faded enough
to notice. You seem to know the previous history
of the vehicle.
"1 previous owner, and hasn't been driven too hard quite yet".

Has it been stored inside or out in the sun for its brief life?

The ticking is trouble. Take her to the stealership asap.

Right, but when I did mine one side was in the shade and the other was in the sun. The stripes on the side exposed to the sun came off much easier.

Exactly!  The shady side was much more prone to breaking and wasn't very flexible, the side on the sun was softer and easier to get a fingernail under and get started, and it released much easier than the cool side of the car.

use a blow drier or heat gun if you want em off....i originally wanted a stripped mustang without spoiler or stripe, but now that i have one, i don't mind the spoiler, but like em better without.....but i LOVE the stripe...don't really like the newer style ones with the itty bitty letters, but seems a lil too plain without em, or something similar jmo

For the ticking noise get to the dealer soon. By stepping on the clutch it proves its is something in the tranny as the gears stop rotating and the noise goes away. Could be something like a chipped gear tooth or a bad bearing. Good luck.

I used a blow dryer to remove my stripes. It only took about 20 min to do both sides.

thanks for the responses...

But yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm just going to take the decals off myself. It seems pretty easy.

About the tranny problem... I'm taking it tommorow, but I just want to have a good idea of what it might be... basically it's making a sound like a skateboard wheel (bearings... but kinda rythmic) only when the clutch pedal is out. Then when you push it in, the noise kinda gradually fades out in a few seconds. If you wait for the noise to go away completely, then put it into gear (any gear... I was idling in my driveway and running it through gears) it slides in perfectly, but if you just push in the clutch and quickly put it into gear (any gear still) it is harder, you kinda have to jam it into gear... also... it clicks when you let the clutch out quickly in neutral...  maybe you guys can think of what could be wrong...? I don't need an exact definite answer, I just don't want to go to the dealership with only a slight idea... thanks in advanced...

I took off my side stripes and it was really easy.  5 minute job, and I used WD-40 to remove any sticky residue.
