View Full Version : how do i get my passenger door to unlock?!?!
tn_gt 05-10-2008, 09:27 AM alright, so this might be a dumb and pointless question but it bugs me pretty bad sometimes lol...half the time when i exit my car my passenger side is locked and half the time its unlocked, is there a special procedure when turning the car off etc. to get it to unlock everytime? it makes me look dumb when i walk around the other side and its locked and i have to walk all the way around the drivers side again cause i leave my keys in there sometimes...its a manual by the way, any comments will help thank you
sailing220 05-10-2008, 09:41 AM When you unlock your car with the remote, do you press the unlock button 1 times or 2?
pascal 05-10-2008, 09:48 AM +1.
Also, go to your manual and follow the directions on how to deprogram this stupid autolock.
I did this this on mine before leaving the dealer's lot;).
Same thing on my F150.
tn_gt 05-10-2008, 09:50 AM im not talking about with my remote, im not stupid i know about that...im talking about after i go for a drive and park it how to i get the passenger door to unlock, and i've looked at my manual a little but idk why it would do it half the time and the other half not do it?
07torchgt 05-10-2008, 09:57 AM yeah .... press unlock on the door
tn_gt 05-10-2008, 10:03 AM well that would work, but thats still not what im wanting to hear in the thread...i need to know why it does it half the time and not the other half
Elwood 05-10-2008, 10:26 AM What the other's said. It's the autolocking feature. Our van's got it too and it annoys the hell out of me.
mlcrycc 05-10-2008, 10:34 AM Hmm....I thought auto lock did not work on manuals.....did this change???

I kind of know what you mean, although my passenger sideis locked and stays locked until I unlock it. Best thing to do is when you open your door to get out, press the "unlock" button to unlock the passenger's side door.
EMichael 05-10-2008, 04:00 PM i have a manual too and i've never had that problem.. i haven't had to deprogram any autolock mode.. usually when i go to my car i press the unlock button twice so it unlocks both.. idk what to tell you, maybe you should call up the dealer you got it from have them take a look at it or something.. it sounds like its an autolock problem from what you described though.. maybe it locks after a certain amount of time and half the time you get out before it locks and half the time you get out after it locks.. good luck with solving that

tn_gt 05-10-2008, 10:04 PM ok for all you guys telling me to read the manual i FREAKING HAVE...im not stupid thats the first place i looked, it says nothing about it...just about the autolock feature and how to disable it if its an auto...my question is nothing to do with that, i need to know why its locked half the time and not the other half when i exit my car after i go for a ride, it doesnt make sense
howarmat 05-10-2008, 10:31 PM you have to be doing something different half the time.
BeitzelGT 05-10-2008, 11:28 PM The truck I have now, when I get in, close the door and start the engine, the doors lock auto... when I cut the engine off, they auto unlock...
maybe your car is crazy?
Orion_240 05-11-2008, 12:17 AM we are just having a very hard time figuring out why you are exiting the car and trying to open the passenger side door without your keys!
I admit sometimes, when I have one heavy shopping bag, I'll put it on the front floor passenger side and when I get home I won't want to reach over and pull it over me while I try to squeeze out my driver side door without denting my neighbors car parked next to mine.
But I would never dream of leaving my keys in the car, so I just unlock the doors with the fob.
dynamicmustangt 05-11-2008, 03:44 AM ^^^^Same here and Its the only car loacked in an oversizedtwo car garage alone
tn_gt 05-11-2008, 07:50 AM well when i pull in from school i leave my keys in my car because i usually leave about ten minutes after i get home anyways, and i forget to unlock it to get my bag out so i end up walking all the way around to unlock it and all the way back, i was just wondering if anybody knew a certain procedure to make them unlock the way they are suppose to when you cut off the engine
redfireshaker06 05-11-2008, 08:30 AM Ok, first. The manualtrannysdo not have the autolock feature. So if your doors are locked and you use your keyfob to open it. Your not pressing your unlockbutton twice. So the passenger door is locked from the start. If you happen to get into the car and press lock. Both doors will be locked. When you open the door the drivers door to leave. It will NOT unlock the passenger door unless you press the unlock button on the door. So your question about why it only happens half the time is probably because. The half the time your pressing unlock twice on the keyfob. Simple as that.
tn_gt 05-11-2008, 08:39 AM well that makes more sense that anybody else's explanation...and is probably the answer to it, so thank you very much
redfireshaker06 05-11-2008, 08:43 AM Woo hoo, finally helped someone. lol Your welcome man
howarmat 05-11-2008, 09:18 AM wasnt that all in the manual??
Orion_240 05-12-2008, 02:51 AM I can't emphasize how important it is to NEVER leave your keys in your car if you aren't near it!
Take your keys out and lock the car!
Otherwise you're just asking to get ripped off or letting some crazy borrow your car and kill someone.
BeeStang 05-12-2008, 10:00 AM Yup, the dreaded double button click! I forget sometimes and my girlfriend is standing next to the car giving me the look!:D
redfireshaker06 05-12-2008, 10:36 AM Why did you write that novel and then edit it? lol

LMAO, because I didn't realize you provided the solution to his problem (it happens when I don't read all of the posts)! :D

So reception would be based on breast size? [8D]
pascal 05-12-2008, 04:52 PM Should be getting great reception with double dish[8D]:D...
pat123 05-12-2008, 05:01 PM Redfire is dead on! I have done the same thing several times. When I get out on my side just by pulling the handle it unlocks my door but it does not unlock the passenger side. With my 06 it was not really a problem (convertible) but with the new hard top it will be more of an issue. So my suggestion is to carry your keys or buy a convertible.
