man im so happy, i was at a friends and we just redid the lower intake gasket on his 5.0 and we mixed a couple of the vacuums and was messin around with them to fix it, and he remembered having a vacuum going to his BAP sensor. without the vacuum his car would surge just like mine was doing so i went and checked on mine and sure enough it was missing the same vacuum, plugged it in BAM!!! SURGE GONE!!!!

I've tried so many different things to get rid of the surge and none have worked, i dont think the vacuum was ever hooked up to the BAP in the first place so i had no clue it even needed one.

Just wanted everyone to know that if your idle is surging/stalling at startup make sure you have a vacuum going to your BAP sensor

Yea me2, another dragon slayed!

But on a side note is this really considered a vacuum leak? I mean you would never find anything leaking out of it, just that nothing is hooked up to it? I've searched tons of forums for answers and find all the common things but have never heard of this, just seems like something that should be more commonly thought about i guess?

If you're talking about a MAF system ('89+ or converted to MAF)..... a vacuum hose should NOT be connected to the Barometric Pressure sensor....... it does not require to read engine vacuum or Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP). If that is the case, you're causing another problem to fix the idle problem.

Barometric (BAP) Sensor
See Figure 18

Fig. 18: Barometric and manifold pressure sensor look similar

The barometric pressure sensor is used to compensate for altitude variations. From this signal, the ECA modifies the air/fuel ratio, spark timing, idle speed and EGR flow. The barometric sensor is a design that produces a frequency based on atmospheric pressure (altitude). The sensor is mounted on the right fender apron.

Its a vent - not a vacuum hook up.

ok now im having same problem after installing a composite powerbox intake, and i was wrong my BAP sensor has NO vac line on it,
car surges up to 4k then dies, now i also removed and blocked off the EGR valve wile installing this intake, but i dont think that should have a effect on it since it has not been plugged in for a LONG time... any thoughts?
