It'd prolly be easier and cheaper to use the right bellhousing and put a 302/351 in. Modulars are expensive and expensive to get power out of. As far as I know, there aren't any 3V 5.4s, and I don't know whether or not the 3V heads will work on a 5.4L. For a 5.4 you'd prolly have to go to a junkyard and look for one out of a truck. Honestly though, if you're thinking you're gonna put a Modular in a classic and go out there and be fast, I hope you have a lot of extra cash laying around. You could try the classic section if you want the information and plan on doing it, but just a friendly word of advice when I tell you that building a modular classic gets real expensive if you're looking for performance. You could swap in a 347 stroker for less money and have more power and use a carb(ie simple with more reliability). If you go to a 5.4 you'll either need to get the engine management system for it, or go with an aftermarket setup.

half way down, and yes the 96 bell housing will fit.  From the few retro-modular conversions i've seen, a 2v may be all the room you have for.  heres a site with some l x h x w measurements http://www.sullivanperformance.com/YVS450/tech/tech1.htm.  and some semi-retro parts.
