hey i just bought a 95 tracer, the check engine light is on and they say it is the MAF...i cleane dit and nothing, my firned tlels me its the IAC....but it could be the alternator this is what it does....

its a manual, when it idles it goes up and down about 500 rpms, like a big cam and i drove it tonight and when it does that it dims all the lights too outside and inside....what is my problem???

i need to fix it fast because im going home tomorrow to MD...400 mile trip

I don't think it's your MAF but if you want to check for sure, unplug it when the car does the idling issue and if the car instantly stops acting up your MAF is shot. If it doesn't change then mark it off the list.

vaccum leak?

throttle position sensor? probably the vaccum leak though

ya my friend thinks its really a vacuum leak hes gonna take a look at it tomorrow morning and im goin to autozoen to have them test the alternator before that, thanks for all the help guys

so i cleaned the IAC 3 timesvery thouroughlyand the idle is fixed now BUT..

i have engien sludge you gusy know of any oil additives i could put in there??

so i changed the fuel fiter which i think was one of my problems as well...when i was drivin back it was kidna dieing then cut out on my on the highway merging in traffic.....NO FUN, so thats done and i changed the oil and put some restore in it, and bought some fuel system cleaner next time i get gas. and once it stops raining ill do the plugs and wires i got...

just wondering what kinda mileage do you guys get out of the 4 cyl stangs? i got an impressive 36 with this

I got 30ish MPG baging the crap out of my N/A. I got a max of 31 mpg on my turbo when I wasn't playing with boost. Hope to hit 33 MPG:D (BTW this is with an auto)

nice in my stang i get 21 and its an auto too

ok so everything is cool but the check enigne light is still coming on...anyway to tell what code its throwing?

it comes on a few minutes after driving and doesnt really affect anything but one time....

it was bucking and wanted to cut off and then it did, i barely made it back to my house

ya i saw the ford one for $30 comes with that book....does it tell you what the codes mean as well in the book?

If the book doesn't then there are TONS on websites that will have what the codes mean for you

Your Cars OBD 1 right? (most) OBD 1 computers just require a paper clip, Haven't tried on a ford, my car doesn't even have a check engine light ;)
