That really sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

I hopped into my friend's ride this morning for a quick jaunt...dunkndonuts yummy...  Usually he jumps on the gas going off base.  He did as he usually does, and the car barely even made like it was accelerating...thats compared to how it used to just jump up out of its skin.  And I was almost disapointed when I braced myself and the car rode like a stock GT.  What gives???  I asked him if he had yanked the blower out and he said that with the gas prices he had the car tuned for 87.  I didn't think that was recommended or even possible, but guess so.  I'm still skeptical!!

i assume a tune can be written for it and 87...........but if you got cash for a s/c......how do you not have a few extra bucks for gas, he probably doesnt even drive it often being on the base and all does he?

apparently if you reduce the timing
down to bare bones, you can run
the 87

i wonder if anything else was changed in
the tune...

I really don't understand him and his decisions sometimes....like ripping a Helion Turbo system out of an 05 gt then putting in a Whipple HO kit?  I dunno, he's not married or anything, LIVES on base has no other bills other than the car payment and a cell phone...oh yeah his World of Warcraft addiction (that i'll never understand).  So he's def not short on money.  I just don't think that you could run a low-volitidy octane tune on a FI set up before it ran too lean at WOT and KABLOOY!  Maybe I'm wrong and you can do it.  Well, you can't go above 25mph anywhere on base, he rarely ever ventures out...so why the stang so you'd never really ever hit WOT...guess its possible.  but kind of pointless......

It's not going to run lean with 87 octane.  It's going to detonate from the increased pressure and temps in the combustion chamber.  I should say detonate at the inappropriate time.

Like hammeron said, reduce the timing and anythings possible.  Seems kind of silly to save $5 per tank or whatever the difference is there.

I would not even buy a Whipple if it cannot be tuned right for 91 octane bare mininum.....93+ to be safe or don't buy any FI! Like moose and Hammeron said I am sure it is possible but whats the point in having one if you cant afford the gas?
