jojoampt -> replacing alternator (5/9/2008 11:50:44 AM)

had a quick question.. my friend has an 87' 5.0 and needs to install a new alternator. he told me theres a belt that he took off to get the old alternator out and now he doesnt feel like he knows how to replace it. can someone please show me a link to a DIY if there is one. i would really appreciate it, thanks in advance. disconnect battery
loosen tensioner to get belt off
disconnect wiring harness from alternator
unbolt alternator
bolt up new alternator
reconnect wiring harness
loosen tensioner again to install belt (nice time to get a new belt too if its getting old)
reconnect battery
take it for a spin

i own an audi and have never been under the hood of a mustang. is it as self explanatory to replace the belt as you say it is? my friend makes it seem like its the ****ing end all be all of belts and is all intimidated by it. thanks for your help so fast by the way.

should be a diagram for routing the belt if he just took it all off,  as long as he has all the acc. then it should foolow that

its ussually located right where the hood latch is, in that area

Yep should be a diagram somewhere under the hood, if not it shouldent be so hard to figure out...
