03 COBRA, THINGS AS THEY SEEM?

ACSViper -> 03 COBRA, THINGS AS THEY SEEM? (5/9/2008 7:57:48 AM)

(i know i make too many threads, but thats what this place is for)

looking at an 03 cobra with about 40K miles. a good price, so i need advice on how to look at certain things...

1) i see in a pic the front bumper has a good few dings n chips from highway driving. anyone know how much it would cost to paint this? just the bumper. and can a shop match sonic blue?

2) the owner says the car was backed into by a truck and replaced the driver side door. i know the best way to tell is looking at it, but its in virginia and im in chicago. u think as long as it looks good and works properly, its fine?

3) current mods are cat back, high flow cats, tune, and pulley. they say its running about 440 hp and 420 ftlbs at rear wheels. sound about right? when i have more time ill show u the dyno sheets they emailed me

THANK YOU

the tourque number seems a  bit low but other than that it sounds right on.   Pint matching can be done to do a whole bumper it would like be a few hundred bucks.  as far as the door goes you really need to look at it.  if all you are concerened about is does it work than thats your call.

IS the VIN sticker on the door or in the jamb?If the price is right buy it.I have always loved those cars but since i couldn't buy one new,I haven't,Yet.I'm always scared of buying long distance and used High performance cars.

I had ford repaint my hood on my cobra.. there is a TSB on it, I only had to pay for a portion the the job @ a ford dealership... cost: $650.00 painted... I paid $125.00

+1 on the torque numbers.. they're very low... while all cars aren't equal but my pulley/intake/exhaust combo made 480lb ft tor...

As far as the door damage... how much is he asking for it?  I am sure it'll work fine, but it definatly decreases the value... with the accident to the door/milage/mods... I would figure you could get it for under 20k... the blue book is horrible on that type of stuff.. even if he fixed the door...

ACSViper -> RE: 03 COBRA, THINGS AS THEY SEEM? (5/10/2008 5:05:11 PM)

theyre asking 20K. so it takes away value with the chipped bumper and door replacent. its positive for the mods. and its sonic blue, kinda rare about 40K miles. it seems these cars r so popular, i see em selling for well over blue book all over the place. thats y i figure i should jump on this. blue book is like high 19 something. so after negotiating, im about there

If it's modified you'd better check for cooling modifications.. especially if it's pullied.

because of the wreck, and the chips.. I don't know if id do a penny over 20.. I would probably offer 19 flat and see where they go... you do have the upper hand with gas prices, the door ding and the hood.. Like I said you might be able to get the hood repainted for cheap under the TSB for the cars like I did... but, if they're holding firm at 20k you can even say 20k plus repaint the hood/bumper.

Blue book is actually well over 20. i checked it on mine with 50k on it and came back with 23,700 few weeks ago.  I would say that 20 is a decent deal as long as the door has been repaired.

WTF! i get an email this morning saying... wed rather prefer to sell to someone local. we have a prospective buyer. good luck with your search for a cobra.

either there is something not on the level with this car, b/c my previous email to him was asking a whole bunch of questions (from cobra bob's website, things to ask before buying a cobra) and he sees im not some idiot trying to blow my money.

or, hes just a dou***ebag

Blownsvt -> RE: 03 COBRA, THINGS AS THEY SEEM? (5/11/2008 9:27:14 AM)

Thats possible, or he would just rather sell it to someone that is willing to just come look at it. I don't know but good luck.  Is there something speciffic you are looking for? and whats your budget?  I will keep an eye out for you.

ACSViper -> RE: 03 COBRA, THINGS AS THEY SEEM? (5/11/2008 10:01:59 AM)

i really want a sonic blue coupe. im not quite ready to settle for black. looking for close to stock, if not stock. about 60K miles max. 25K is highest i would spend

Black*Death -> RE: 03 COBRA, THINGS AS THEY SEEM? (5/11/2008 11:48:08 AM)

There are 3rd party companies to handle ebay or unseen vehicle purchases.  The companies will verify VIN and give you an overall view of the car.  Many also handle the exchange of money.  Maybe for about a 1K you can have a company look at the vehicle, handle the transaction and ship the car to you.  Use a reputable company though.  Also the 1K price is a bit of a guess.  Call dealership back and let them know you are willing to do soemthing like that.  Good luck with the Cobra search.
