I'm not sure where else I could have better put this question so...........I just paid the $30 for carfax and ran a check on the mustang I am about to buy from carmax. I knew I should trust carfax more than the other free history-checker supplied on their website.
It says that my car is 1 owner and all which is good, but it says that it was originally registered as a "corporate lease vehicle" and was a "corporate fleet lease"
Does anyone know what this means? Was it a rental car?

If you bought your car as a certified pre-owned vehicle, than it has a high chance that it was used as a rental. I think most rental companies auction off their cars when they hit 20k miles....picture it as this, buying a certified pre-owned vehicle is like marrying a former prostitute; you never know who has taken her for a ride

It's an 04 black/black GT with leather, 5 speed. Alloy wheels too and all. It's the perfect car that I've been looking for, for almost half a year now. It has less than 27k miles on it. I know the price is not exactly cheap nor negotiable but I really wanted it.
And now I just found out that it might have been a rental car...
Yeah I was thinking that but what I want to know is exactly what "corporate lease vehicle" and "corporate fleet lease" means.....
I mean if someone leased the car, I get how it may be called a lease vehicle instead of personal, but why "corporate" in it as well? Maybe it was owned by some company that allowed many people to drive it - hard.
Damn it this really sucks. This really really sucks. I already paid $550 for it to be coming here and I planned on buying it. I knew I shouldn't have trusted the VIN checker provided free by them and should have use carfax myself first before ordering the transfer.
my best friends dad owns a company....theyre rich bastards so they dont lease vehicles but they buy them and list them as company expenses .....so his company owns an 08 escalade, 08 cts, 06 lexus something, 02 porsche, 98 stang, 03 f150, 97 f350, and an 04 wrangler.....if any of those vehicles were leased they would be called corporate leased i believed....another example is my moms business she worked for, the high end executives got company cars they could drive from home to work and to business meetings etc, they were leased vehicles so my moms boss for example had a lexus that he drove everyday and it was a company lease....the executives got new cars whenever the lease was up.....your chances of it being abused as a company vehicle are just as high as it being abused by a private owner....its got low miles, and these cars are built for a little abuse...i would say you're perfectly fine buying it....mines got 150k and i drive it like its stolen and it fires up and purrs right away and it performs like its brand new...keep up on the maintenance and all is good man
LOL nice. Yeah thanks a lot, I really really hope it wasn't any sorta rental car. I'll look into this as much as I can before and during the car comes. I heard the car shipped today, from Texas. I'm guessing that it may get here by Monday or so, in which case Carmax locks the car for 3 days for me to make a decision, before they put it on the public floor.
These cars of exactly trim, colors and specs have been REALLY hard to find in this area, believe it or not. The few that i've found had really high mileage, like 67k, 75k, etc. When I saw this one that only had like 26,800 miles I jumped on it almost right away. I'm 19 and it is also gonna be my first car, so I want to do everything right the first time.
Honestly as long as it wasn't truely a rental car I'm ok with it, especailly how Carmax checks up all their cars throughly and does include a 5-day refund guarantee and a 30-day warranty. I'm just worried about someday when I may want to sell it, I will just be getting even less than the already low amount that I would be able to sell it for. Since I'll have to be paying a premium of $17,600 for this car anyways.
I wonder what happens if I buy this car and register it as my personal car. On the top of the carfax report where it says "Type of ownership: Corporate fleet lease" will it be changed to "Personal" maybe...
now that i cant tell you because i have no idea....but when i bought my car i bought it with the idea of never reselling, so i didnt quite care what my title says lol...my car is rebuilt/high mile....i ran a carfax on it though and my car was in one accident but was not totalled...it ended up being a salvage title car when some insurance company repo'd it or something...idk, but i have a rebuilt title but theres no total loss claims against my car lol...stuff always looks worse on paper!!
Well I mean I have no intention of selling it yet because I love mustang's and forever will lol but i'm just saying that later on I may want to and I was just hoping to have everything perfect. Plus it it WAS rental car then many people have probably F'd it up through the years.
Yeah. I think I'm just gonna go ahead and buy it when it comes, so long as it is in the condition described by their texas store staff and the pictures. I called up my dealer today and asked him about it and he said that it meant that a company purchased the car and leased it out to a single employee and after 2-3 years or so, he/she returned it. The carfax report said that it's been registered as a lease vehicle twice, in 04 and 07. So i'm guessing that just meant that 2 people have driven it under one owner.
It would be nice to be able to talk the price down alittle though, carmax assholes. I checked out some rental car sales from mainstream rental companies and ran the VIN's, they all came up as "Rental" as type of ownership, so I guess I am good.
Hey thanks a lot of the help, really cleared up my worries. I'll let you all know once I get the car and I plan to be very active in this forum. I'm already about to order some "GT" floormats from americanmuscle.com so I can put it in as soon as I buy the car and not dirty it ahahahahahahahaha
